Senior Expert Core Network & Services – Distributed Cloud Database Architecture (m/f)

Job description

• Responsibility for evolution of the subscriber data handling architecture, based on the cNTDB concept, optimized for deployment in a Pan-EU IP environment and optimized for upcoming use cases (including the ones identified for e.g. 5G).
• Develop/evolve DT group concepts/standards for a versatile, highly reliable, flexible and cost efficient „cloud-DB“/cNTDB architecture, drive PoCs and implementation.
• Define a generic, re-usable meta data-model that can be used across different suppliers/BE implementations.
• Drive clear separation of HW and SW, define the appropriate level and timing for virtualization/cloudification
• Co-ordinate and drive work within standardization and industry bodies in this area (like 3GPP)  to support  evolution of DT’s cNTDB concept.
• Elaborate and assess technical solutions for migration from other databases towards cNTDB, according to the demand identified.
• Supplier evaluation and management as well as steering group wide supplier RFQ’s / supplier decisions.
• Provide guidelines and recommendations for database features (vs. application features), ensure sharing of knowledge and best practises amongst NatCos
• Analyse the demand for further evolution from CTO perspective and align with technology strategy group wide
• Intense networking with other technology units in Germany and Europe (NatCos) is essential.
• Establish close cooperation with industry representatives and key suppliers.

• University degree in electrical engineering, computer science, information systems, physics or equivalent
• Large service provider (ISP, Telco or Consulting) experience
• 10 to 15 years experience in designing database systems / data modelling, ideally in the area of fixed/mobile networks
• Excellent knowledge of fixed/mobile network technologies with special focus on subscriber databases (HLR/HSS, AAA, etc.)
• Detailed understanding of fixed and mobile operator business
• Detailed understanding of working methods in standardization and industry bodies, ideally known within such communities
• Good knowledge of key principles and protocols for database access (e.g. LDAP)
• Knowledge regarding virtualization, cloud, datacenter and IP network architectures in a carrier environment
• Knowledge of cloud orchestration frameworks and principles
• Knowledge regarding open source projects and their working methods (e.g. Linux, KVM, OpenStack, Cassandra, RethinkDB)
• Knowledge of Cisco, Huawei, Ericsson, NSN, Alcatel-Lucent, Oracle, etc. database portfolio
• Broad commercial and business awareness regarding carrier business.
