These are exciting times at DHL and we are currently seeking an exceptional candidate to join us as a Transport First Line Manager
The Transport FLM will lead and manage the transport operation through short term objectives. They will be responsible for the delivery of a daily transport plan ensuring service and efficieny targets are met. They will manage a safe and efficient transport operation for the site and the customer(s).
They will ensure compliance to all company and legal requirements and will drive change using process management and continuous improvement as their key tools. Areas of focus will be key control, paperwork control, issuing of company hardware, defect reporting, POD management,Drviver debriefs and service delivery.
They will coach, motivate, train & develop the driving workforce, executing plans against customer requirements, and “making DHL Supply Chain a great place to work”.
Key Responsibilities in this role will include:
Safety
• Analyse and understand health and safety related risks for area of responsibility, take action to reduce or eliminate these risks according to a prioritized plan
• Take responsibility for managing and running a safe transport operation and drive a Safety First Culture with all individuals in the operation by applying and improving the Safety Standards
• Leverage Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) program as a daily way to confirm behaviours and processes
• Review incident investigations within the work place, respond to escalated issues of non compliance and ensure relevant safety regulations and procedures are adhered to
Regulatory Compliance
• Maintain processes and required statutory qualifications to ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and local legal obligations
• Ensure the appropriate communication, understanding and compliance with all relevant DPDHL policies takes place
• Review practices against the requirements of legal compliance regularly and implement a formal process to address any issues
Security
• Ensure adequate security measures are in place to protect the operation, including the safety of personnel, DSC assets and of the customer's product for the operation or section of the operation
• Ensure an effective deployment of The DSC 6 Steps security framework across the operation or section of the operation
• Involve customers and employees in these activities to ensure awareness of all relevant risks, and an effective response to all threats is implemented in the operation or section of the operation
Process Framework
• Ensure the relevant work instructions and standard operating procedures for the transport operation are in place and are followed
• Ensure there is a quality management approach in place that is in line with policy, and customer expectations.
• Ensure there is an up to date annual training matrix / plan covering the identified needs of all individuals in the transport operation and gain agreement to an appropriate budget that enables the plan to be implemented
• Ensure effective CAPA process is in place particularly for critical nonconformities, with actions taken to prevent recurrence and avoid cost of non-quality
• Monitor and evaluate suppliers performance based on agreed requirements and initiate improvement actions when suppliers fall short of required performance
• Analyse the risk of business disruptions to the transport operation and identify appropriate business continuity procedures to minimize risks and limit the impact
• Attend and participate on customer, regulatory and internal audits, working with relevant stakeholders to ensure an adequate action plan is implemented to resolve issues
Key skills and experience in this role will include:
• 3+ years' operational management experience within a faced paced distribution environment
• Experience of managing through EFX, and maximising revenues
• Ability to work in a pressurized environment
• People Management
• Influencing skills
• Negotiation skills
• IT literate
• Written and oral communication skills
• Experience of managing in a unionised environment
• An integral player in the larger consumer network transport strategy
• Educated to high school (secondary) standard
• RHA / FTA Knowledge
• IOSH
