We are offering an exceptional candidate the chance to be an Communications Officer. The focus for this role will be to provide a coordinated and proactive approach across the site in terms of employee engagement and communications. 

What are you accountable for achieving as an Communications Officer? 

To be responsible for ensuring the delivery and control of communications, from and within depot, ensuring they are consistent with the requirements of both DHL and Sainsbury's, and that they are to a standard that reflect the professionalism of the organisation and the site.

To provide guidance, support and improvement to all forms of site communication between all areas of the depot and its external contacts, and to produce regular site newsletters to keep colleagues informed of local, business, and DPDHL matters.

To support line managers with the communication of the site EOS results, developing action plans and leading workshops at sites to develop employee engagement and help foster the right culture on site.

• Manage site communications across all formats and media. Ensure the communication zones, and communication boards including the site's Pride Wall are correctly managed and information is accurate and up to date. Ensure key messages are seen

• Event Management; Responsible for the ideas and delivery of events on site such as Christmas activities and CSR initiatives, including Children in Need, Red Nose Day etc. Develop and implement the site Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, activities and culture, and ensure committee meetings take place and are productive. Liaise with local school/community groups and ensure committee and site get involved with activities to support the school and give back to local community

• EOS; Facilitate and support FLMs with EOS focus group, action planning, and management of MATT system. Develop similar survey to ensure agency employees have a voice; support FLMs with engaging with this group. Support HRBP on ad hoc basis when training is needed for FLMs such as Active Leadership

•  Manage and coordinate committee groups on site, and ensure communication of and from these groups is shared to all on site. Examples include H&S committee, Employee Forum, Charity committee, social committee (if deemed to be needed), and EOS focus group(s). Align with DHL initiatives such as DHL Foundation to engage site with TACs demonstrations, and Prices Trust

• Manage on-site schemes and initiatives to encourage an engaged culture. Management of employee recognition scheme Shining Stars; review nominations on a monthly basis with OM/GM, and administer awards and letters recognising colleagues achievements.  Review scheme and drive any updates/changes to the leadership team as and when needed. Deliver Engagement/CSR section of DHL induction to all new starters.

• Manage site communications across all formats

• Support FLMs in delivering EOS survey each year; ensure results are briefed in-line with up to date DHL direction, and MATT system updated in time

• Ensure a coordinated approach in terms of communication and engagement with all other Sainsbury's depots, and ensuring UK&I comms teams are involved in any new changes/initiatives to ensure compliant with wider DHL

•  Engage across all levels of the site from colleagues to leadership team, in a passionate, engaging and positive way ensuring everyone is supportive and engaged in the process and initiatives on site

• Develop and implement DHL Supply Chain's corporate initiatives i.e.. Princes Trust, TACS, Match It etc.

• Develop credible relationships with key decision makers at site (both DHL & Sainsbury's where appropriate)

•  Ensure alignment with DHL for engagement initiatives such as reward & recognition, H&S, CSR, Long Service Awards, L&D etc.

•  Build and maintain relationships with all key stakeholders

• Attend committee meetings as appropriate and provide support in terms of employee engagement and communication, ensuring any and all messages from groups are clearly communicated 

• Engage all colleagues and management levels in the engagement initiatives on site to proactively drive involvement and culture

• Actively champion a culture of engagement, including both agency and core colleagues


What will you need as a successful Communications Officer

• Minimum of 2 years experience of working in similar role

• Experience of working within a supply chain environment (desirable)

• Be passionate about employee engagement and communication

• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of internal and external hierarchy and cultural boundaries. To be able to address large groups of people

• Be engaging and personable and to be able to establish themselves as a credible expert in communication and engagement

• Excellent influencing, motivation and communication skills

• Able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills

• Possess a strong will and persuasive manner which is used to proactively engage across all levels at site

• Be self-motivated, able to use own initiative to define and drive site specific actions processes, and to make decisions
