Role Overview:
The Usability Intern will work within the Enterprise Experience division of the Dell Experience Design Group. The Intern will be a part of the UX/Usability team and assist in creating and implementing world-class experiences for Dell's hardware and software. At a minimum, the Intern will get experience planning and conducting usability evaluations (e.g. lab usability testing, field observational testing) as well as presenting test results. The Intern will assist members of the UX/Usability team as well as be responsible for completing research in support of their self-defined Intern Project.
The Experience Design Group consists of industrial designers, usability engineers, interaction designers, visual designers, packaging designers, and color/materials/finishes specialists. The usability team, which consists of usability engineers with a mix of backgrounds (both Psychology and Industrial Engineering) and experience.
Responsibilities
- Help form project conceptions
- Design, conduct, and present research
- Prototype concepts (hardware or software)
- Work in teams – both internal (usability & design) and external (marketing & engineering)
- Contribute to product specifications
- Learn and apply user-centered design principles
Desired profile
Requirements
- Pursuing an accredited Bachelor's degree; Master's or PhD in UX/UI; Human Factors, Usability
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Research Methods, Introduction Human Factors/HCI/Ergonomics, Statistics
- Experience with Usability methods (e.g. Task Analysis, Expert Reviews/Heuristic Evaluations) and Survey design
- Experience with prototyping tools (hardware or software)
- Previous internship experience required for undergraduate candidates
