Tasks
Responsibilities:
Develops, implements, and improves manufacturing production processes by studying body in white product and manufacturing methods.
The Ideal Candidate will be able to:
· Develop manufacturing (Production) processes to build van bodies; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators
· Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes
· Check feasibility of product changes, e.g. engineering changes, face lift and continuous changes and coordinate implementation in series production on schedule
· Prepare planning options, evaluate cost-efficiency and provide analysis of both
· Write spec books; request and evaluate supplier quotations
· Manage complex projects; coordinate suppliers on and off site
· Technical acceptance of large equipment/installations
· Plan workplaces considering ergonomics
· Take part in continuous improvement process to optimize manufacturing efficiency
· Develop planning standards, methods, and procedures
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education
Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Process Engineering or in a related engineering field required.
Experience
3-5 years of relevant experience
BIW Engineering experience desired
Other necessary skills include: dealing with complexity, informing others, leadership, negotiation, manufacturing methods (especially welding) and procedures, presenting technical information, CAD.
A good knowledge of German will be highly valued.

Location information
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is part of the division Mercedes-Benz Vans of Daimler AG, Germany. It is a plant in South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner, with headquarters in Charleston, SC. The midsize Metris van was added to the assembly line in 2015.
Mercedes-Benz Vans announced in March 2015 that it will invest $500 million in construction of a new Sprinter production plant, in addition to an expansion of existing assembly operations. The new facility will be also located in Charleston, and will provide up to 1,300 jobs.
More than 130,000 Sprinter have been assembled in Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the third largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany and the U.K.
