Problem definition:
OBD requirements specify requirements for detection of failed parts that effect tailpipe emissions. Examples are a broken DPF, a non functioning EGR valve or a sensor reading an improper value. During development these failure modes are simulated using various methods. E.g. drilling holes in a DPF, welding EGR valve in fixed position. For legal as well for internal improvements we want to investigate the correlation between the simulated failed parts and real failures as they occur in real life conditions. Focus will be the aftertreatment system, fuel injection system, exhaust gas sensors and EGR system.
Assignment:
- Retreive information about the real failure mode occuring in the field from Testing and Service Departments
- Retreive actual failed parts from Testing / Service Departments
- Investigate functional behaviour, emission impact and diagnostic coverage of these parts
- Investigate alternative failed part creation methods
