Job description

Coral Cay Conservation is offering a rare opportunity for marketing students to see the inner workings of a dynamic, small, award winning non-profit organization. We’re looking for a self-starter with a healthy mix of analytical brilliance, incredible attention to detail and a strong entrepreneurial compass to play a critical role in online marketing campaigns and build our online presence through strategic market planning. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate with strong web and writing skills, who is seeking practical experience in strategic communications and marketing (including online marketing, social media, and public relations). The Online Marketing intern will gain insight and practical experience working on strategic nonprofit campaigns focusing on sustainability and social responsibility, as well as specific marketing projects and materials.

For over 26 years Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) has advanced awareness and marine policy for the future prosperity of tropical coastal communities in developing countries. Several internationally notable accomplishments including the creation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Belize; The Danjugan Marine Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary for Negros, Philippines; The Limasawa Community Managed Marine Protected Area for Southern Leyte and the development of 12 no-take marine parks around Sogod Bay in the Philippines.

Responsibilities:

• Help to maintain the Coral Cay Conservation presence on online social networking sites (primarily Facebook and Twitter) by starting conversations online and nurturing online visitors into deeper levels of involvement in Coral Cay Conservation’s work.
• Build relationships with the online communications staff at other nonprofits.
• Improve our online brand presence through strategic marketing and planning.

Social Media

• Scheduling tweets
• Updating the newsletter
• Writing at the most two blog posts a week
• Organizing our LinkedIn group

Desired profile

Required Qualifications:

. Must have a passion for marine conservation and be a diver, so that you are aware of the current issues and are interested in Coral Cay Conservation's mission to protect the oceans

• post-graduate seeking professional experience in communications, marketing, or related fields
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Must be an outgoing, personable, and articulate networker and self-starter.
• Must be comfortable working in an environment where creativity is encouraged.
• Must be web savvy and enjoy keeping up with new content-sharing technologies online.
• Avid users of social media (primarily Facebook and Twitter).
• Experience on previous online outreach desirable.
• Experience using graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator desirable.

Preferrable Qualifications:

• Comfortable with web content management systems (CMS)
• Ability to troubleshoot simple code (basic html and CSS)

We can offer invaluable experience in the sector in return. We’re a very relaxed bunch with a lot to do, but work with a culture where all opinions matter and are taken into consideration. The role is unpaid (although we can cover travel expenses the days you work with us) with the possibility of an expedition placement to one of our overseas projects.

Full or part time internships will be considered, and hours can be flexible to suit. We require a minimum commitment of 3 months (but would prefer if someone can commit to longer).
