Job description
We have a permanent opportunity for a General Legal Counsel within Compass Group PLC. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel the role will be based at the Company’s headquarters in Chertsey, although there may be potential opportunity to travel abroad should the role require.

Main responsibilitiesWorking within the wider Compass Group Legal team, the Group Legal Counsel will act as the legal interface between the Group and relevant legal and commercial representatives for selected group companies worldwide, providing legal advice to the Group head office functions (including Tax, Treasury, HR, IT and Finance) in respect of a number of areas including but not limited to commercial law, employment, real estate, intellectual property and competition law.
The selected candidate will assist the International Clients team in drafting and negotiating international master services agreements with key global clients of the Group, and provide commercially focussed legal advice to various business teams worldwide on a wide range of commercial agreements, in addition to providing support to the Company Secretarial department in relation to legal issues arising from the company’s listed status and other company secretarial matters.
Ideal candidateThe successful candidate will be degree educated or equivalent, ideally holding an appropriate First or 2:1 degree. You will be a commercial or corporate lawyer with a solid foundation of ' post-qualification commercial/corporate experience gained either in-house or at a respected law firm.
A good understanding of contract and commercial law is essential, coupled with strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills (both written and verbal).
Due to the demands of the role you will need to be well organised and a self-starter with a commercial awareness and focus on providing practical solutions. You will have the confidence to deal with difficult situations and remain robust under pressure, with a willingness to learn and the ability to build good relationships with colleagues, third parties and stakeholders.
An additional relevant language would be an advantage but is not essential.
