CISO – Security Leadership / NIS2 (Brussels, Hybrid) - Freelance

Job description

A Belgian federal public institution is looking for an experienced CISO to take the lead on its information security and steer its security governance during a key period.

In this leadership role, you will own the organisation's security strategy and translate regulatory obligations into concrete action in a NIS2 and GDPR context. Your scope spans governance and risk management, security policies, identity and access management (Microsoft EntraID), cryptography, audits and overall security posture. You will define and enforce security policies, coordinate audits, advise senior stakeholders, and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, working with controls such as firewalls, anti-virus and encryption.

Desired profile

1) 10+ years of IT experience, including at least 5 years in information security / CISO-level roles | 2) Proven security leadership: governance, risk management, security policies and audits | 3) Strong knowledge of NIS2 and GDPR, with the ability to write and enforce security policies | 4) Solid technical grounding in IAM (Microsoft EntraID), cryptography, firewalls, anti-virus and encryption | 5) A relevant security certification (CISSP, CISM, CISA or ISO 27001) | 6) Master's degree | 7) Languages: French native, Dutch (active) and English (active)
