Job description

Role: Junior Buyer Non Food
Grade: D
Salary: Upto £28,000
Location: Support Centre, Manchester

The Co-operative Food is changing. And it’s changing fast. This is change that will revive our business, and bring us back to our roots as the UK’s foremost convenience retailer. It’ll give us a commercial edge, a competitive advantage, and provide more opportunities for career development to all our colleagues.
We’ve made a massive investment in growing our Commercial Department and improving our customer offer, and now we need to recruit talented Junior Buyers to help us develop and deliver our category strategies. With an exceptional leadership team in place, and investment in our future growth secured, there’s never been a better time to join the Trading Team and make a very real contribution to the revival of a truly iconic brand.
In this important role, you’ll be responsible for one of our smaller product categories: sourcing products, taking the lead in negotiations, representing the business in supplier meetings and visits, and building strong productive relationships with suppliers and a wide range of internal stakeholders. The Co-operative Food is committed to an ethical approach to sourcing that aims to ensure sustainability in our supply chain, and the delivery of consistent quality to our customers in-store. You’ll play an important role in delivering these quality standards by role modelling an approach that requires a genuine passion for our products, and a commitment to building open, honest and mutually beneficial relationships with our suppliers.
We want to talk to graduate calibre candidates with experience or qualifications in relevant areas. You’ll need a natural ability to build relationships and negotiate with people at all levels, and your energy, tenacity and creativity will help you to add real value as we look to develop our proposition. Perhaps most importantly, your passion for our products, and desire to develop your skills and grow your career will ensure you thrive in our fast-paced, ever-changing working environment.
We’re aiming to become the number one convenience retailer in the UK. We believe we’ll achieve this by placing customer and community needs at the heart of shrewd commercial decision making. Driven by strong ethics, a sustainable approach and a real commitment to strategic supplier partnerships, we want to be successful by doing the right thing and treating people the right way. Join us and play your part.

Make every future a success.
