Job description

Main Job Purpose:
To assist in the smooth production and development of new and existing products and manufacturing processes.
Support to Production team, process changes, projects, investigations, prototyping, problem solving, and bill of materials, costs and routings.

- Experience in a production engineering role related to electro-mechanical and moulded component assemblies.
- Experience in the analysis of cost and value engineering of electro-mechanical and moulded assemblies.
- Experience / knowledge of moulded components.
- Understanding of Fourman manufacturing modules .
- Full understanding of Bill of Material and Process Routing creation.
- Able to compile Shop floor process instructions and safe working procedures.
- Able to work under own initiative and formulate strategies for continual improvement.
- Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- High standard of numeracy and literacy.
- Teamwork.
- Project management skills.
- Good attention to detail.

- Able to use co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM).
- A sound knowledge of materials and production processes.
Key Tasks
- Analyse the current production process and introduce lean manufacturing techniques.
- Work with Quality and supply chain to improve component and product quality.
- Work with Design Engineering to improve the manufacturability of current products.
- Preparation and updating of Shop Floor process instructions and Safe Working Procedures.
- Work within a 'cost reduction programme’ team, investigating both labour and material standards, including purchased items.
- Liaison with Design Engineering during product development phase to ensure Design for Manufacture’ (DFM) of new products.
- Develop the production process for new products, including qualifying the supply chain and packaging methods.
- Manage the New Product Introduction (NPI) process of new products until "buyoff" by Production.
- Preparation of specifications for capital equipment and manual processes including inspection/test.
- To undertake and design/make jigs / fixtures as required.
- Preparation of cost justification/pay-back analysis for new or improvement capital expenditure.
- Ensure that all production processes and equipment used comply with safety and environmental legislation.
- Accurate maintenance of Fourman Bill of Material and Routing Files to provide the basis for Shop Floor Documentation, Capacity and Material Planning and Standard Costing.
- Maintenance of adequate technical library and relevant archives.
- To be involved in the investigation and solutions of mechanical engineering problems.
- Use CMM to check components against drawing dimensions.
- To be involved in process changes, as required.
- The initiation of product and component modifications, concessions and production permits.
- To be involved in projects and investigations, as required.
- To be involved in prototyping and investigations, as required.
- Conduct validation exercises for new components and products.
- To undertake any such reasonable additional tasks as are deemed necessary to fulfil the role.
- To be aware of the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and to ensure that any hazards and/or accidents are reported to a Health and Safety Representative as appropriate and to be aware of safety issues throughout the company.
