PATENT / INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY SCIENTIST LEAD (H/F)

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Global Head of Intellectual Property, Innovation & R&D Strategy, the patent scientist/manager will help develop, drive and implement intellectual property strategies that supports innovation and its research based business. IP responsibilities include, IP strategies for protecting R&D inventions, including scientific trait and plant variety inventions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides market & competitive intelligence to understand IP trends, impact and potential outcomes for the business.
- Proactively provides IP input in developing R&D, market and business strategies and participates in HM.CLAUSE and Limagrain crop and research steering councils/working groups.
- Proactively Collaborates with scientists (plant breeders, molecular scientist, genetic/trait scientists, biochemists, pathologist, agronomist, etc) and product managers and stakeholders to stay apprised of developments and to provide IP input in developing IP strategies for research projects for trait, agronomic and /variety development, seed technology, and other business opportunities.
- Works in concert and bridges communication with company (HM.CLAUSE), LIMAGRAIN Vegetable Seeds, an d BU, LVS and Limagrain Corporate in terms of Intellectual Property, in particular understand and incorporate resources, approach and strategies that gain from collective efforts & resources.
- Set up and ensures IP processes and guidelines from HM.CLAUSE and LVS are met.
- Works with internal and external legal counsel to manage patent landscape, freedom to operate, and patentability analyses and other IP due diligence in collaboration with
- Assist and works with internal and external legal counsel in drafting, negotiating, and maintaining material transfer agreements, research agreements, patent licenses and other agreements.
- Reviewing technical manuscripts, posters, and other materials intended for publication.
- Identifying, drafting and preparing invention disclosure forms and supporting as needed by internal (LIMAGRAIN) and external legal counsel.
- Develops a culture and provides training that fosters innovation and IP awareness.
- Updates and contributes to company's case and patent databases for shared IP information management.
COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Scientific Degree in plant sciences, genetics or related area and Masters or certificate in Intellectual Property and patent legal systems.
- Advanced degree in plant or related fields, such as biology, microbiology, genetics, plant breeding, pathology, agronomy is required.
- Demonstrated scientific understanding in plant breeding, molecular trait, or related science required. Able to understand science and technology behind a broad range of scientific activities and draw connections with the business
- Understanding of the US patent system and UPOV based Plant Breeder’s rights national systems, desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate complex legal and scientific matters required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with scientific and legal collaborators in various countries, in particular USA and France is highly desirable. Ability to collaborate with colleagues in different time zones.
- Must be proficient in English and French, both written and verbal.
- Skills to manage databases and other search engines is highly desirable.
- Rigorous, autonomous, organized, you are recognized for your relational skills, your strength of proposal, your ability to convince and adapt.
- Self-motivated, continuous learner, and able to multitask and meet tight deadlines and deliverables on a timely manner.
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
