We are a Community Arts and wellbeing centre for people over the age of 55 based in Angel, Islington. We serve people from all walks of life and have 600+ attendances each week and over 35 classes and special events. Role Description – Internship
This six-month internship offers the opportunity for those interested in working in Community Arts or related fields (i.e. performing or visual arts, events management, health and wellbeing etc) to gain experience and insight into the running of a dynamic community arts centre. In your role you will be expected to:
• Assist the Programme Manager and Centre Manager in carrying out of operational tasks (e.g. by supporting regular classes, art exhibition openings, setting up music concerts, dance workshops, collecting data etc).
• Engage with members using the centre, making them feel welcome, helping with enquiries etc.
• Communicating with non-members using the Centre (including employees and external clients) at all levels about specific projects as well as general inquiries.
• Assist with general office tasks (answering telephones, filing, sorting post).
• Support the organisation of special events and trips (e.g. Christmas and Easter parties, variety shows, cultural events etc.) through research and planning.
• Design and support activities to ensure that Claremont is reaching particularly isolated older people.
• Research, design and teach/facilitate at least one workshop or group (optional).
• Collaborate with the Centre Manager and Programme Manager to ensure the high quality of Claremont services (collecting member feedback on classes, suggesting ways to improve reception of members etc.).
Activities coordinator
Alongside the regular internship, Claremont are also recruiting for a designated activities coordinator. This is a new and exciting role which will offer the opportunity to gain experience in project design and management, whilst working alongside a supportive and creative team.
In addition to general intern-related responsibilities, the activities coordinator will be working closely with our Centre and Programme Manager on developing and running new classes to engage a higher percentage of male members. Therefore, a strong interest/ knowledge/ experience in activities such as darts, football and handywork is desirable.
Desired profile
The ideal candidate will have:
• A positive and approachable personality with a strong presence. You should enjoy meeting people and getting them involved in new activities.
• A hands-on approach, keen to assist activities such as darts, vinyl club and handywork.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong focus on membership engagement and outreach.
• A resourceful problem solver who enjoys new challenges.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task.
• Excellent written (preferable) and verbal communication skills, with good attention to detail.
• Leadership skills (desired).
• Ability to “think on the spot” and remain calm under pressure.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (desired).

Other Information
All interns can claim expenses of up to £8 in travel and £4.50 in lunch expenses each day.
