Job description

City Year UK is a youth social action charity that gives young people a chance to tackle one of the UK’s biggest social problems, educational inequality. Through a year of full-time voluntary service we give 18-25 year olds a platform to dedicate their talent to support pupils growing up in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK.

Serving in a team of like-minded young people, you will support teachers in the classroom, bridging the gap between student teacher relationships, creating positive learning environments and helping to inspire a love of learning.

The role?

Following two weeks of intensive training, you will help support pupils in the classroom by:
Helping to improve academic achievement, attendance and behaviour
Helping pupils to develop the skills they need to face emotional and social challenges
Providing one-to-one, tailored support to struggling / at-risk pupils
Running after-school clubs and social action projects.

What will your experience with City Year UK give you?
The opportunity to inspire school children to achieve their true potential.
The confidence to lead from the front and develop a range of new skills.
A real boost to your CV, making you stand out to employers.
Access to a mentor to help support your professional development.
The reward of a year filled with fresh challenges, new friendships and fun.
Up to £4,400 a year towards your living expenses in London, or £3,960 in the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.

A City Year is a life-changing experience. As well as having a huge impact on the lives of children, it’s a chance to invest in yourself and your future. It’s a year to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and develop the skills to become a self-confident leader with the skills, passion and values to stand out from the crowd.

Whether you’re a graduate, a placement year student or you’ve just left school, there are so many reasons why young people join City Year UK and have the best year of their life.
