CGI are recruiting for a Software Test Engineer to be involved in one of the most ambitious National Infrastructure Programmes aimed at delivering a new technology platform for the monitoring and control of traffic on the motorways and major trunk roads of England.
The role will be based in Birmingham, however due to the nature of the role it may be required to travel to other CGI’s offices across UK.

Your future duties and responsibilities
The project is reaching an exciting stage in that we are undertaking a series of test phases with our client, then moving on to support our client in their test phases. Throughout this period, we will be providing warranty support for our solution in addition to agreeing change requests with the client to enhance and improve the solution.

As a Software Test Engineer you will assist the team with all aspects on the project. This may be documenting and developing new tests or be developing new solutions in accordance with the design, or rigorously investigating and resolving any issues in the existing software. As well as development and testing responsibilities there will also be elements of support required.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
This is a hands on role, that requires a candidate with a “can-do attitude” able to hit the ground running at CGI.

The variety of the role requires someone that will have a combination of testing and developing experience and must be willing to provide support on the implementation of the new platform.
It is essential to have evidence of Java experience in a project environment, and knowledge of / exposure to SQL, and exposure to XML SOAP web services in a project.

It would be desirable for you to have been part of a long term project as a developer (in a relevant language, not necessarily Java). For example, working as part of a development team as a .NET or C++ or Java developer, and you are comfortable with testing methodologies.

Other desirable experience includes RedHat Fuse, knowledge of Postgres databases, Controls System experience, and exposure to telemetry protocols.
