Oracle DBA with Sybase

Position Description
CGI is looking for an Oracle DBA with Sybase experience to join our team in Reston, VA. The DBA will work in a mixed database environment, primarily Oracle, but should have experience with other databases such as Sybase and/or SQL. Duties will include: Your future duties and responsibilities
1. Provide physical and logical database support as needed for various applications.
2. Identify and evaluate design considerations, propose design best practices, perform database code re-views and propose performance changes.
3. Participate in production issue triage as requested by other support teams or the Enterprise Command Center. Provide periodic updates on production outages and slow response issues as each incident oc-curs.
4. Troubleshoot the failure of both physical & logical DBA owned Autosys jobs.
5. Lead database issues until resolution. Serve as a liaison between the applicable third party vendor technical support team and client if a problem case is submitted to the third party vendor. Initiate meetings/WebEx with the necessary teams, including client teams, and provide regular updates on the issues until resolution.
6. Submit service requests or problem cases to the applicable third party vendors where necessary. Follow through on the service requests and problem cases with the third party vendors until closure.
7. Coordinate with application teams or other teams to resolve database issues even though the issues are not directly related to the databases.
8. Perform database housekeeping designed to ensure that the databases are functioning optimally and securely.
9. Perform performance tuning and/or stress testing in the non-production environment for application re-leases as necessary to ensure database infrastructure is configured optimally.
10. Provide after business hours and weekend support in client's production and contingency environments, as needed.
11. Maintain the databases to meet performance standards, maximize efficiency, and minimize outages
12. Develop/maintain knowledge articles related to databases for the Level 1 and Level 2 teams to follow.
13. Proactively provide capacity planning to prevent situations caused by lack of capacity.
14. Provide detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for incidents as requested after the incident resolution within the client defined timeframe.
15. Monitor database usage, transaction volumes, response times, and concurrency levels, and measure and report its performance against the applicable Service Levels.
16. Develop/maintain/enhance database monitoring scripts designed to ensure the stability, security, and performance of the database queries.
17. Review Turn-Over Log (TOL), follow up on the root cause of the incident tickets generated the previous day, and develop a process to remediate recurring incidents.
18. Provide database resiliency in accordance with client standards. Develop or maintain Technology Contingency Plan (TCP) for the database and participate in routine or on-demand disaster recovery exercises (DREs).
19. Identify, report and manage data security issues. Provide audit trails and forensics to Client or its designee when necessary.
20. Maintain, update, and implement database archive processes and procedures to meet client’s business requirements.
21. Generate performance reports (e.g., Oracle AWR report, etc.) as required for database troubleshooting.
22. Perform system/parameter changes, reorganizations and update/gather statistics to optimize performance when required.
23. Perform database Upgrades and patching. Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• 3-5 years of Oracle DBA experience
• Good understanding of the Oracle database (v 10 or higher), related utilities and tools.
1+ years of Sybase DBA experience
• Good knowledge of the physical database design, database tuning and performance monitoring
• Good knowledge and experience with Oracle data pump utility.
• Perform general technical trouble shooting and give consultation to development teams. Assist developers with database activities.
• Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
• Create database objects (tables, indexes, etc.)
• Develop database procedures, functions and triggers.
• Knowledge of Shell scripting.
• Knowledge of scheduling tools – Oracle Scheduler, Autosys, Cron.
• Take ownership of tasks assigned and provide status daily.
• Good communication skills with teams.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work as part of a team and provide 24x7 support when required.
