To operate and/or maintain the asset to achieve the safe production of electricity to meet customer requirements, best business value and compliance with company and statutory requirements.

The Role
DIMENSIONS:
· The shift operational activities of a single or dual fuel CCGT power plant comprising of complex and diverse range of equipment operating 24/7/365 in a stop and start regime
· To work with high technology plant and equipment, including industrial Gas Turbines (GT), Steam Turbines (ST), Heat recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), electrical generators, High Voltage electrical equipment and plant control systems
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES /RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Operates and/or maintains all plant areas (inside and outside duties) with a focus on Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) compliance and availability, taking actions to deliver customer satisfaction and achievement of the business plan
· Responsible for accurately maintaining station and operating logs in a timely manner for statutory compliance purposes
· Assist the Shift Team Leader in operating the Permit to Work (PTW) system and the application of the safety rules, work release and emergency procedures to ensure compliance with site procedures
· Performs routine maintenance inspections, testing and adjustments to plant items to ensure efficient production, environmental and safety compliance
· Interacts with NGC/Transco and Centrica Energy Operations (CEOL) in respect of energy requirements and supply to ensure awareness and understanding by all
· Ensures full awareness of the technical condition of the asset and is proactive in ensuring that any issues that may affect the HS&E, production capability availability are properly notified and acted upon
· Collects operational and HS&E data for inclusion into station logs and formal reports for use by internal and statutory bodies e.g. Environmental Agency
· Ensures that a comprehensive and thorough handover takes place between shift teams to maintain continuity of safe operations and ensure on-going knowledge of work activities
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS:
· Achievement of Power delivery targets to satisfy customer CEOL, NGC and Transco
· Participation in personal and HSE performance reviews and agreed personal and team development plans are in place
· Required level of maintenance on shift achieved in line with plan to optimise station resource usage and costs
· No breaches of operating licences
The Person
HSE RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to being appropriately authorised within safety rules, complying with site and company safety rules, policies, business procedures and carrying out duties relating to HS&E requirements of the operating activities including:
· On a shift basis takes action to ensure Legionella risk is properly managed
· Conducts operating and maintenance audits to ensure compliance with company policy and procedures
· Fulfils a key role in the incident response team
· Promotes a positive HS&E culture ensuring that all activities are undertaken in full cognisance of the company's commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment and that all necessary controls are in place to minimise risks and eliminate hazards:
· Co-operates in the prevention of work-related accidents and ill health, and the promotion of environmental good practice by adopting appropriate behaviour
· Reports unsafe practices, behaviours and equipment, and Health, Safety and Environmental concerns and incidents
· Supports and participates in HS&E improvement initiative
· Ensures correct PPE is worn for work activities
· Ensures the correct use of tools and equipment
The following SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE are ESSENTIAL:
· Minimum of ONC (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering subject
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Flexible approach adapting quickly to things new, changes in the job and work environment and who enjoys being fully involved in ensuring the business is a success
· Identify improvements and take initiatives to the betterment of the business
· Good numeracy, literacy and problem solving skills
· Demonstrable competence in use of IT/IS skills e.g. MS Office
· Experience of laboratory analysis equipment and techniques
The following SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE are DESIRABLE:
· Formally trained in Electrical, Mechanical, C&I, DCS maintenance
· Experience of power plant (or equivalent process) operation with power generation
JOB CONTEXT:
Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, the jobholder is responsible for carrying out front line plant operations and maintenance on a complex and diverse range of equipment. Operations are on a 24/7/365 basis to meet the demanding scheduled and often unscheduled production targets.
The jobholder assists in notifying fuel requirements and operates the plant to CEOL requirements or as instructed by NGC/Transco and assists in ensuring HS&E requirements are complied with.
Whilst on duty the jobholder often working alone is responsible for taking initiatives and making decisions in operating the plant to achieve the often demanding production and time targets safely and within environmental limits for the station.
He/she plays a key role in emergency management, site security to be compliant with company standards and statutory requirements.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
· Strong working relationships with day based team members and leadership, other asses' peers, company central operations team and NGC-Transco. The job holder will ensure as the operator and/or Maintainer that there is close and effective working with the day maintenance crew and others.
