Overview

Local Heroes is a new digital innovation from British Gas.

So we’re really innovative, agile, and fast to market we’ve set up Local Heroes in a different way to traditional British Gas projects. We’re a small cross-functional team including digital industry experts working largely autonomously in a dedicated office in central London using lean startup methodologies.

This means we can move really fast – we launched our first service to market just three months after going live and we’re constantly learning and iterating the services. Typically we updated the service at least once every week.

Although its early days for us, our vision for Local Heroes is huge. We want to be the go to service for all consumers who need any form of help in their home, from plumbing repairs to home improvements and perhaps even domestic services like cleaning and dog walking. And while we’re helping consumers we will be building a network of trusted local traders along the way.

And we certainly have the attention of the British Gas leadership team – this month we presented to the Centrica board as one of the top four innovations coming out of British Gas.

The Role

This person will be a key member of a small multi-functional team to deliver an amazing customer experience to our consumer customer base to launch a new British Gas digital business.

The Person

·  Experience of working with lean startup/agile development methodologies - Technical stack: HTML5, CSS3, Angular JS, Node JS, Javascript, LESS, AWS, Mongo DB, MySQL, Jenkins, GIT, Linux, WordPress
·  Experience of App development and/or automated desirable but not essential
·  Ability to work in a startup environment, comfortable with ambiguity, able to change direction at a moment's notice, and happy to work outside the box - turning a hand to whatever needs doing at the time
·  Energy and motivation to simply get things done, working to ambitious timescales and overcoming obstacles with a can-do attitude to just get things done
·  A great team worker - working in a tight multi-functional team and able to communicate to and with everyone
·  Based 5 days a week in central London
