Overview

·  To provide appropriate, accurate and timely data and structured analytics for underwriting, actuarial and other business decision making purposes
·  To proactively identify and take opportunities to improve the data at the team’s disposal in the interests of fairer customer pricing, better business decision making and to achieve commercial targets
·  To challenge the status quo in exploring alternative ways of analysing, presenting and visualising data to bring our insurance data to life for the business and help the team enter BG’s ‘Big Data’ era with confidence

The Role

·  Provision and analysis of data to satisfy both regular and ad hoc requests in a timely manner based on the prevailing business priorities.
·  Ensure data integrity and reconciliation checks are standard practice in all activities performed.
·  Support the core Insurance Team, BGI and UK Home with a range of requests depending on business need.
·  Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within BGI and across other areas of the business.
·  Can be relied upon to deliver to agreed timescales, actively support colleagues, exhibit flexibility, and can be trusted to communicate constructively, listen actively, share openly and treat others with respect at all times.
·  Seeks and is open to constructive feedback and has a self-driven attitude to personal development.
·  Has a strong appreciation of current data protection policies and procedures.

The Person

·  Technical expert in data – ability to query and analyse data effectively using SAS / SQL coding and present this back to stakeholders clearly
·  Ability to switch seamlessly between project-based and short-term work, dependent on business priorities, whilst maintaining an eye for detail
·  Ability to work collaboratively within BGI and across other teams in the business
·  Able to challenge the status quo in the pursuit of new and better data and tools – not afraid to ask for help when necessary
·  A strong appreciation of current data protection policies and procedures
·  Strong understanding of key data sources with the ability to perform data reconciliation / integrity checks and governance before releasing data for end users
·  Results-oriented, resilient individual, comfortable in dealing with ambiguity and complexity
·  A logical thinker who is able to break down difficult problems into manageable ones
·  Seeks (and is open to) constructive feedback and is self-driven attitude towards personal development
·  Degree or equivalent experience in a subject requiring high numeracy skills (Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, etc.).
·  Further  qualifications a potential advantage, but not a pre-requisite.
·  This role would suit an individual with solid core coding and analysis skills who has experience of (or at the very least a desire to actively learn) the emerging tools and techniques of the Big Data era, who can apply and share these productively with the BGI Data team to the benefit of BGI colleagues and the wider business.
·  Any candidate would ideally have had some previous exposure to work in an Insurance environment on consumer lines products, but this is not a pre-requisite for strong candidates in all other areas of the specified role.
