Cargill’s portfolio of refined vegetable Oils allows our customers in food manufacturing, retail, catering and food services to create a wide range of tasty nutritious food products. We partner with our customers in order to develop innovative products and solutions together to help them meet their consumer’s requirements.

At the Brocklebank plant we crush and refine vegetable seeds to produce mid protein meal and crude rape oil with facilities to outload oil for export. The crush products are developed for various implementations in food (e.g. catering), biodiesel and animal feed. The refinery also processes the crude vegetable oils further for food chain and technical uses.

We are looking to appoint a skilled and experienced Process Technician in the Refinery department in our Brocklebank plant to operate the plant safely and efficiently whilst optimising production through the best utilisation of the plant’s equipment. The plant operates on a 24/7 – 365 day basis and this role will require the successful candidate to work a continental shift pattern consisting of 12 hour shifts typically 4 on/4 off including both day and nights.

Major Tasks

  • To achieve best in class operating performance and ensure safe working practices are adhered to by Cargill personnel and contractors
  • Start up, shutdown and operation of the process with maximum efficiency and minimum utilisation of energy, chemicals etc
  • To undertake problem solving and decision making within a fast-moving process environment and within a self-managed, continuous improvement environment
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to make the plant more efficient
  • Monitor all important process variables making adjustments to ensure the process stays within normal safe operating limits whilst maintaining quality parameters
  • Report and track any maintenance issues or safety issues found during the shift and through operator care
  • Respond positively and effectively to changing customer needs
  • Execute basic mechanical and preventative maintenance tasks to minimise unplanned downtime

  • Substantial experience within a similar industrial process environment. (e.g. Food, Pharma, Petro Chemical, Chemicals etc)
  • Minimum 5 GCSE’s grade A-C (including English and Maths) and NVQ Level 3/HNC in mechanical, chemical or process engineering
  • We would also welcome applications from graduates with a relevant engineering degree and work experience
  • Basic mechanical engineering and diagnostic skills
  • Working knowledge of HACCP
  • Knowledge and application of continuous improvement and problem solving methods e.g. 5S/5Y, Kaizen, Lean six Sigma
  • Commitment to high personal and environmental safety standards
  • Proactive and independent mind-set, comfortable working in a self- managed team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, able to build relationships with internal and external colleagues at all levels
  • Conscientious, diligent individual with good attention to detail
