Role Requirements:
The successful candidate will fully flexible and ideally have experience of working in a large outsource service environment. The applicant will be highly motivated in the delivery of robust infrastructure designs for medium to large-scale enterprise class storage, data protection and archive solutions.
They will also work to support bids, often in the early stage of requirements gathering and formal proposal; through to high and detailed level design and implementation, providing consultancy and technical leadership throughout.
The key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Owning the design of specific technology solutions from high-level and detailed-level designs to deployment and handover to delivery.
- Ability to mentor more junior members of the team.
- Design:
o Design efficient solutions that are operationally cost effective to maintain
o Exploit and develop shared blueprint and documentation for ongoing reuse
o Ensure that solutions and designs are aligned with both the Global Infrastructure Outsourcing (GIO) and UK Infrastructure Architecture Group (IAG) service offers and standard products / tools
o Both verbally and in written form articulate solutions and benefits accurately and persuasively reflecting the client’s interests or concerns
o Identify maintenance costs based on effort required, value delivered and client’s expectations
o Ensure that the detailed solutions align with client and strategy and SLA’s
- Implement:
o Work with the Storage Management team to deliver the designed solution
o Offer relevant guidance on
Build and configuration documentation standards
Preparation of the physical environments for deployments
Preparation of test plans & scripts
o Identify “lessons learned” for future designs
Key skills required:
A mandatory requirement for storage, archiving and backup based solutions experience with the following skill set:
- Enterprise, Mid-Tier and Archive storage solutions from suppliers such as EMC, HP, IBM, HDS, NetApp and Dell
- Data Backup and data backup network design including the use of software from Symantec, HP, IBM and EMC
- FC and IP SAN fabric designs using hardware from Brocade & Cisco
- EMC Networker and Data Domain
- Broad proven skills covering proposal, solution costing and design of medium and enterprise-level infrastructure solutions for archiving and compliance
While certification knowledge levels in all of the above is not expected, the individual must feel comfortable in the above areas, with an expectation that they are also able to liaise and engage, technically, with specialists as required.
