The Architecture & Technology Solutions (ATS) team in BTS is one of the key teams within Capgemini Applications Services. Our longstanding, global reputation in the field of architecture is unmatched and the team consists of the senior technology leaders – including, but not limited to architects – who take ownership and accountability at all stages of the lifecycle for the technical solutions we design, deliver and run for our customers.
Capgemini Business Architects are a unique blend of enterprise architect and business domain expert with the personal skills and credibility to work closely with CIOs and business leaders to ensure that business strategy is translated into business outcomes through IT solutions represented in an enterprise architecture. They are consultants who speak and understand the language of business and also have an understanding of technology and solutions.
This is a challenging role, demanding high standards, and a robust approach to align business outcomes to business requirements through a clear and monitored line of sight. The specific responsibilities will be different depending upon the individual project, but the role of the Business Architect is to provide both business and technical leadership on large client engagements. In addition, our business architects are also expected to drive new business by taking sales opportunities through to a successful conclusion. This will require consultancy and sector specialism skills that enable the trusted advisor relationships on client engagements, which are required to pull through business for the wider team. We are looking for natural communicators with the right technical and commercial nous to make this role a success.
We offer you the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting projects going, with high-profile clients from every business sector, and great architecture communities and delivery teams. Often large and cutting-edge in nature, these projects will require you to be pragmatic and versatile, with the capacity to rapidly take on new skills as you are exposed to new business challenges and ways of working.
Role & Responsibilities:
With knowledge of architecture methods such as TOGAF and experience as a principal technical authority on at least one major project, reinforced by business domain knowledge in at least one sector, you will have a broad knowledge of IT and deep, demonstrable expertise in at least one technology area. Just as importantly, you will be both keen problem-solver and expert communicator, able to keep the big picture in mind and work with diverse sets of stakeholders to create and deliver enterprise-wide architectures. Above all, you will possess the gravitas and consultancy skills to build trusted relationships with senior IT and business stakeholders.
We are looking for the highest calibre individuals who exhibit the following attributes, experience and skills that enable them to ‘hit the ground running’ and deliver rapid value to our clients.
The skills on show should be a mixture of:
enterprise architect – able to formulate and/or elucidate an overall design and strategy for the IT landscape that meets the requirements and the business & IT principles of the client, provide a focal point for definition and understanding of this solution, and control technical risk for both the client and Capgemini through effective architecture governance; and
business consultant – able to work with business people to ensure that IT strategies and technical projects deliver business outcomes and reflect business priorities and constraints.
Essential skills, knowledge & experience:
We are looking for the highest-calibre individuals who exhibit the following attributes, experience and skills, enabling them to deliver rapid value to our clients:
Close understanding of at least one business domain with familiarity of the relevant processes and value chains
Good understanding of application, information and infrastructure architectures in the public and private sectors
Extensive experience in at least one of the following functional areas:
application integration (messaging, adaptors, ERP integration, JCA, JBI, WS-* Standards)
service integration (ESB implementation, service enablement, legacy integration)
process integration (business process integration, workflow, service orchestration)
‘people’ integration (portals, collaboration, multi-channel access, web-enablement)
Experience in design and delivery of service-oriented architectures and software development processes such as RUP (Rational Unified Process) and Agile
Demonstrable experience in the elicitation & specification of architectural and non-functional requirements
Good familiarity with the disciplines of enterprise software development such as configuration & release management, source code & version controls, and operational considerations such as monitoring and instrumentation
A good appreciation of the cost drivers in systems delivery and operations and the commercial consequences of the technical decisions made by you and/or others.
Desirable skills, knowledge & experience:
A good degree-level education is highly desirable.
Essential Personal Qualities:
You will:
Have excellent consulting, communication & influencing skills with proven ability to lead teams and deliver innovative, but realistic solutions to complex client problems
Be proficient at communicating strategies, policies and complex technical issues to both business and technical audiences; comfortable when presenting to a senior audience
Have the ability to develop productive client relationships at different management levels and identify and develop opportunities for new business
Show a willingness to learn, grow and stretch into new roles and different industries/domains
Maintain a fully-flexible approach to working hours and working away from home during the week; willing to work nationally, with the potential to work internationally if desired.
Working collaboratively is what gives us the edge. You’ll be joining other professionals, sharing ideas and using common processes and methodologies, while working on innovative technology development for our clients on a whole range of diverse and challenging assignments. Our collaborative environment ensures that you and your team can make the most of your skills.
Great client relationships come with real client intimacy and truly understanding business needs. In order to achieve this you will generally be based on a client site, often working in joint teams with members from the UK, other Capgemini operations and our offshore staff in India. Travel requirements are largely UK-based, but can also include continental Europe of further afield, depending on the type of project.

Whilst you may have any of our UK offices as a base location, you must be fully flexible in terms of assignment location, as these roles may involve periods of time away from home during the week at short notice. We offer an excellent remuneration package to include flexible benefits and bonus dependent on the candidate's competency, skills and level of expertise.
