Job Purpose and Summary

Canon UK  based in Woodhatch, Reigate, Surrey is keen to build a pipeline of those students seeking career training opportunities as part of their career journey.

Important

For any training opportunity there will be a formal process of application and we will contact you of that process through this candidate management system. You may not hear from Canon for sometime as different opportunities may occur at various times of the year.

Work Experience – 1 week

We offer a limited number of placements to Sixth Form college students with the aim of helping them understand the career opportunities that exist within a large corporate organisation.  You will gain a general overview of all areas of the business and be asked to apply your skills to some real business challenges.  We also help you with some career coaching and advice such as how to present yourself to future employers.  This is a great way to get an insight into the opportunities available at Canon.  Be prepared to be challenged too as we ask you to work on a project.

 

Internships – 1 month +

We offer limited opportunities to gain work experience for those taking a degree at University, where an Industrial Placement is not as part of the degree. Generally taken in the Christmas or Summer breaks, this gives you up to 6 weeks project/s based work. You will be given a clear goal or project to work towards and offered training and support from your line manager.  Internships can relate to a range of specialisms within the organisation e.g. Finance, HR, Business Operations and will enable you to gain practical experience of a live business challenge in a dynamic work environment.  Internships are usually paid, the minimum wage, plus travelling expenses.   Details of internships and minimum qualifications required, are posted on the Canon Career website, for you to present a tailored CV and apply.

 

Apprenticeships – 12 months

Working and being paid £12K + 5% bonus offering excellent training including college training, you will be work in your chosen specialist area e.g. IT and developing your skills and confidence as you are given responsibilities to develop you. Be prepared to work hard and demonstrate a desire for learning.

We aim to offer you a role at the end of your apprenticeship, if there is an opportunity to do so.

Depending on the apprenticeship role and the college requirements, entry qualifications will differ, but as a general rule you will need to achieve Maths and English grade 4 and above(new grade).

 

Work Placement – 12 months

These opportunities are open to those who need to have an Industrial Placement as part of their related degree studies. The application process starts usually in October/November before the year of placement.

You will have the opportunity to explore new areas and develop those that you have studied, gaining invaluable experience of how the theory translates into practice.  Usually the Industrial Placements are in Marketing, Finance and IT but may extend to other areas.

Depending on the career training opportunity on offer, you will be communicated to when these opportunities are available. You will then be told of the minimum qualification required, the deadline for applications and how to apply.
However, you will need for any of the above opportunities, to have a curious mind and to be clear about how you can use this career training opportunity to enhance your studies and put your academic learning into practice.
Reliability and punctuality are important as you will be learning to work more effectively as a team.
Having the confidence to ask questions, is an excellent trait, as we want you to understand what has been asked of you and to support you along your training journey with us.
Experience of using Word, Excel and Powerpoint is useful, depending on the training opportunity you apply to.

You will need

You will need to have excellent communication skills, verbally and face to face. Understand how to work as part of a team and contribute to the team. You will be a creative thinker and could be analysing  business related issues and understanding how you could develop cost effective workable solutions to them. . With strong organisational skills of  managing your own project work, you will plan effectively so you can deliver an excellent pieces of work within a specific timescale.
