Job Purpose and Summary

Due to continued growth, Canon Cambridge require a Typesetter to join our Studio Team.

As an experienced typesetter to work on a Canon customer site you will work with the Studio Manager in produce a high level of produced material to the customer standards. A demanding but satisfying role there is some flexibility around working hours. The roles are based at either Whittlesford or Papworth Everard near Cambridge.

The work is varied and so if you enjoy working in a fast paced environment, being part of a team and have accurate and excellent time management skills, then this is a great opportunity to develop your career.

Please note - these roles are not creative roles, you will be working to defined templates and standards.

Example of the type of work you could be involved in - producing examination material where zero defect is expected and achieved.

To work with the Studio Manager to identify and implement immediate and effective actions to address any area or process where (Key Performance Indicators) KPI measurement has fallen below pre-requisite levels and to maintain all processes and procedures employed within the in-house confidential print facility in accordance with the requirements of all ISO and BS accreditations achieved, and within the requirements of all legislative requirements, service enhancements and developments.
Respond to customer requests and enquiries in a prompt and efficient manner, meetings demands pro-actively where possible. To communicate with clients consistently and by understanding their needs, promote the services being offered.

Self Development is important at Canon and you will be encouraged to take further training to develop your skills in this role through the guidance and support of your Manager.

Good understanding of typesetting technologies, preferably In-design
Knowledge of foreign language setting is desirable but not essential as is experience of setting scientific data and formulae
Well organised with good communication and presentation skills

Flexible, adaptive and innovative, good interpersonal skills
An eye for detail, accuracy and consistency

Demonstrable knowledge of typesetting skills along with the ability to copy type
Excellent knowledge of English Grammar
Adobe Creative Suite skills on Mac equipment especially In-design
Comprehensive practical knowledge of marks for copy prep & proof correction in accordance with BS 5261C:2005
High level of organisational skills within an environment of conflicting priorities
You will have high levels of concentration

This role is demanding and needs someone who can work to a high level of attention to detail at all times. Using your excellent communication skills you will need to communicate effectively to Canon’s customers as needed and across internal Canon departments
