Job Purpose and Summary
Responsible for driving the efficiency & effectiveness of search on onsite search platforms across Canon’s own websites and eCommerce stores. Ensure the stability, speed and relevance of these onsite platforms to ensure that users can find and action the right content.
Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Drive the optimisation of Canon Europe’s website and E-Commerce search engine solutions, eg. Query enhancements/tuning, key match marketing and biasing rules, managing the dictionary and thesaurus, etc. Identify & action improvements to the search results page.
2. Develop a defined and documented search experience, including the user experience/user interface for the Search Results page, on our platforms as part of our overall user experience
3. Managed and deliver against requests from business to create ‘search collections’ – the indexing of content from specific areas for specific platforms, eg. Apps
4. Develop and maintain an appropriate search taxonomy for all platforms, based on our overarching taxonomy principles
5. Work with the Content Strategy, Content Operations, eCommerce and SEO teams to ensure that content produced for our websites/stores in fully optimised and visible for our search platforms
6. Work with Canon Europe’s search platform vendors and agencies to conduct ongoing technical analysis of platforms and work with Canon’s technical teams drive improvements to our search visibility across our search platforms
7. Support the Search & Analytics Manager to work with the business and Canon’s search & media agencies to develop and deliver integrated search strategies and activities for SEO, PPC, Social, e-commerce, onsite & retail Search across EMEA
8. Work with Canon’s central localisation teams and local business stakeholders to ensure Canon’s Search strategy is effectively localised/trans-created for use across our search platforms
9. Work with Canon’s European Service and Support team to drive search improvements to the support area of Canon Europe’s sites
10. Work with eCommerce to drive search improvements to the Store search platform
11. Work with the Web Analytics Specialist to generate search related insights from our analytics and supply to key external and internal stakeholders for action
12. Measure & report on the suite of search KPIs and deliver site-search performance reports for marketing/e-commerce sites
13. Facilitate meetings with the search platform providers/maintainers and Canon internal teams

Desired profile
Education/Qualifications/Experience
• 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably in an Search agency/client side Search role
• Experience of managing on-site search functionality for a brand
• Experience working with Retail/E-commerce websites
• Strong business and commercial awareness
• Relevant bachelor’s degree
• Fluent English, both written and spoken – other languages desirable
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at varying different levels
• Able to communicate and interact effectively with different types of people, both technical and non-technical
• Problem solving through data mining and analysis
• Good written and verbal communications skills
• Understanding of web development languages e.g. HTML, CSS.
• Understanding of Web Content Management Systems, website architecture & usability
• Knowledge of leading search platforms including Endeca and Google Search Appliance
• Knowledge of MS Office products including Excel and PowerPoint
Other search related experience
• Experience managing search agencies and platforms
• A passion for online and search marketing
• Good knowledge and understanding of how search engines work including Google, Yandex etc.
• Experience with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and related online tools. International experience is an advantage (desirable)
• Knowledge on technical SEO implementation including experience with server redirects, site architecture, taxonomy, faceted search, implementing microdata/schema.org (desirable)
• Experience in PPC and Social Media (desirable)
• Technical knowledge of all aspects of SEO including keyword research, on-page and off-page optimisation
• Knowledgeable in using website analytics packages (preferably WebTrends), being able to extract appropriate data for analysis and reporting
