Cambridge University Students Union (CUSU) is a registered charity that represents all students at the University of Cambridge. It is a democratic, student-led organisation that aims to support and advance the educational, social and cultural experience of its members, support their welfare, and campaign on issues such as equal opportunities and equal access. It also provides a number of services to its members including an advice service, mail service and vehicle hire scheme.

Sales Assistant/Coordinator

CUSU is recruiting for the position of Sales Assistant/Coordinator to work within the Business Team and be responsible to the Commercial Services Manager. Based at CUSU’s offices in central Cambridge, the hours of work will be full-time, 8-hours per day, Monday-Friday (36.5 hours per week) with very occasional need to work outside of these hours. The salary is £22,000 pa with a three-month probationary period and an immediate start would be ideal.

Job Purpose

The focus of the role is prospecting and converting incoming business-to-business sales. The Sales Assistant/Coordinator is the primary sales person for CUSU’s advertising, events and sponsorship business and is responsible for an annual sales target of £200-260k. This includes sponsorship and general bookings for several annual events, website and print-based advertising, social media, email and radio campaigns and donations. Assisting with business development is also an important part of the role. The ability to confidently go about sales, convert leads and effectively deal with clients is of the utmost importance.

Specific Duties

Prospecting for new clients
Cold calling, email marketing and face-to-face networking in order to win new business from graduate recruiters, national brands, local and independent businesses and University of Cambridge institutions.

Managing campaigns on Salesforce
Working with the Commercial Services Manager to identify new campaigns and prospects; working with the Services Assistant to collect and input data relating to campaigns; importing leads to Salesforce; processing opportunities through Salesforce.

Converting incoming sales enquiries
Managing the Business Team’s central lines of communication; processing all incoming sales enquiries relating to standard products and services; forwarding potential partnerships to the Commercial Services Manager.

Managing the bookings process for all sales
Managing the paperwork for all bookings; scheduling bookings; liaising with the team members who fulfil bookings; passing the relevant information to the Finance Process Manager for invoicing.

Managing the placing of advertising
Accepting client’s artwork; providing artwork to other members of the team and our printers in a prompt manner.

Assisting with events management
Assisting the Commercial Services Manager and the wider team; attending to the needs of clients; assisting with event setup and takedown.

Providing assistance to the Commercial Services Manager as and when required.

Occasionally covering for the Services Coordinator (e.g. lunchtimes, annual leave)

Person Specification

Education & qualifications
Educated to A-level standard or equivalent.
Further and Higher qualifications are desirable (e.g. Marketing degree of equivalent).
Training in Salesforce would be ideal.

Specialist knowledge & skills
Familiarity with using basic computer software packages, such as Microsoft Office, Google Calendar, email and the internet.
Ability to understand computer software easily and quickly adapt to using software - in particular CRM (e.g. Salesforce)
Excellent customer service skills
Good organisation skills

Interpersonal & communication skills
Strong level of oral, written and written communication skills
Good telephone skills with good commercial acumen
An ability to communicate in a professional and business-like manner to clients
Ability to speak confidently regarding a portfolio of products, services or activities, and develop and follow scripted responses

Relevant experience
Track record of working in a primary sales role - cold calling, converting incoming sales enquiries, email marketing, using a CRM system (e.g. Salesforce)
Experience of achieving sales goals, ideally in advertising, events and/or sponsorship

Additional requirements
Ability to manage own time efficiently and independently
Ability to work on own and/or as part of a team
Ability to schedule work for others to fulfil

Recruitment Process
