Site Reliability (SRE) Engineer (Cassandra)
Location; Rathbone Place, London

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Cassandra Expert to join our team in a challenging IoT environment.
Connected Home is a product division of Centrica and is responsible for developing new ways to help customers engage with their energy consumption. The first product, Hive Active Heating, an IoT-based remote management app for central heating schedules, launched in late 2013 and went on to win many industry awards for innovation and customer experience.
You are passionate and full of energy for innovative infrastructures that support IoT data streaming use cases.

Essential skills

·  You’ll have a deep knowledge working with Apache Cassandra Administration, any experience in other NoSQL database technologies is a plus
·  A good understanding of RDBMS technologies like MySQL and PostgreSQL
·  The ability to deploy, migrate, troubleshoot, and maintain various databases
·  Database performance tuning and proactive improvement
·  Strong understanding of Design Patterns & DB migration strategies with a basic understanding of Java Concurrency

To be brilliant in this role you will have/be

·  Good Linux system administration experience
·  Experienced in scripting languages like bash
·  Implementing and using one of Graphite, Grafana, OpenTSDB, Boundary, Datadog
·  Knowledge of programming languages such as python & ruby
·  Good understanding of networking concepts
·  Production experience with:
·  High-availability distributed systems automation frameworks and configuration management tools
·  AWS including CloudFormation, VPC’s and the AWS CLIA self -starter who is intelligent, highly curious, inquisitive, and creative
·  Passionate about software & Active on GitHub
·  Easy to work with; open, honest, and good sense of humour
·  Upbeat and optimistic; Comfortable celebrating failure when it leads to learning and iteration
