The Overview
Centrica Plc has operations in the UK, North America and Europe. With over 30 million customer-product relationships and 40,000 employees worldwide, Centrica's vision is to become the leading integrated supplier of energy and related services for its chosen markets with customers at its core. Centrica has an important role to play in the resolution of some of the most pressing issues for the industry - energy security, climate change and affordability.
Following a strategic review in 2015, Centrica will focus on five business areas: Energy Supply to residential and business customers, Energy Services (where the Group has a distinctive and leading services capability through a team of 12,000 engineers and technicians on the ground in geographic locations), Distributed Energy and Power, Connected Home (investing in innovation) and Energy Marketing and Trading. Exploration and Production will continue to play an important role for Centrica, but a more focused one. Following a number of promotions from within the Internal Audit team we are now seeking to recruit the next generation of audit professionals.
The Role
· Take personal responsibility for delivering quality work on audits covering a range of operational and financial processes across the business. Produce associated documentation across the lifecycle of audits as determined by specific assignments
· Work closely with key business stakeholders to gain an understanding of Centrica’s risk profile and of the core processes and controls in place to manage this
· Engage and challenge the business and help to shape the control environment
· Build a network within Centrica to facilitate next career steps either within Internal Audit or in the wider Centrica business (Risk, Finance, Strategy etc)
· Work with the business, including the Risk and Controls/Compliance teams to provide integrated assurance on key risks and governance of key projects and critical change activities
· Add value to management teams by providing insight based on understanding of the business or subject matter areas
· Through traditional training methods and hands-on experience develop a thorough understanding of Centrica and the energy chain in its entirety in order to add real value to management teams
The Person
· Demonstrated competencies in the areas of stewardship, strategic thinking, operational excellence and driving change
· Clear and succinct communication, presentation and report writing style
· Effective at building and maintaining good working relationships and leveraging a network across the business
· Self-motivated and organises own workload to ensure effective delivery of assignments/projects
· A team player and innovative thinker with attention to detail and the ability to influence a diverse group of stakeholders
· Collate and analyse evidence in a thorough, pragmatic and organised manner to identify root causes, support appropriate decisions and enhance quality of audit delivery
· Knowledge of the UK energy market (preferable)
· Proven track record of academic achievement
· A minimum of 18 months audit experience or business experience in the energy market
· Studying or willingness to study for a recognised finance or controls qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, MIIA)
· Some travel required within UK, Norway, Netherlands and the US
