Role synopsis
Reporting to the Global Engineering and Projects Manager, this role provides professional assurance on Control of Work for Air BP and Process Safety. The post holder provides technical guidance to Air BP Performance Units (PUs) and Third Parties ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable and compliant engineering works.
A key responsibility of the role is to be the single point accountable for Control of Work (CoW) and HAZOP for Air BP; providing assurance that the Air BP practices are in line with the expectations of Group practice and implemented across all PUs. The role also requires the incumbent to deliver specific engineering support on the design, construction and commissioning of mechanical systems, aviation fuelling equipment and fixed/mobile storage projects. The role provides an opportunity to further develop skills in multiple areas of safety, engineering design and project management.

Key accountabilities
Central Engineering Function
· Responsible for the upkeep and stewardship of Air BP documentation including creation and development of allocated engineering standards on Control of Work, Site Safe Working Practices and HAZOP
· Ensure Air BPs Control of Work process and HAZOP practice meets the BP Group Objectives and the Air BP practices are implemented across the PUs
· Develop and deliver training workshops on CoW and HITRA to PU Technical Authorities (TA) and assess individuals' competence
· Conduct engineering compliance assessment reviews in Country and/or desk top reviews on CoW and Permit to Work (PtW)
· Provide assurance and verification of technical practice compliance throughout Air BP's PUs, including HAZOP implementation PU Support
· Lead the CoW TA community to ensure best practice and lessons learnt are freely shared and incorporated proactively on projects and non-routine works
· Provide ongoing technical input and engineering support relating to process safety, designs and specification of plant equipment and systems
· Assist in the risk assessment and engineering review/approval of modifications via the Management of Change process
· Coach and support PU HAZOP Leaders on Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies for new projects and revalidation
· Lead PHSSER studies at different stages of the capital value projects, contribute to and/or lead incident investigations, Project Design review, Environmental impact assessment, Risk Assessment and MOCs Project Governance
· Manage multi-disciplined smaller projects through from conception to hand-over to the operator, including: liaising with airport authorities, feasibility studies, project budget and cost control, project planning and reporting, site surveys and environmental impact assessments, design, procurement, contractor selection and tendering, site supervision (incl. permit to work oversight, commissioning and operator training)
· Responsibilities include liaising with airport authorities or regulatory bodies, 3rd party operations and maintenance personnel, inspection consultants and other engineering disciplines and specialists Key Challenges
· Familiarisation with Air BP business structure, JVs, asset ownership and operating models
· Development of productive relationships with PU Technical Authorities, PU Operations, contractors and project engineering personnel in order to assure Control of Work is delivered to Air BP requirements and intervene/ escalate as appropriate
· Familiarisation with aviation fuel storage, handling and distribution operations; Air BP engineering standards; industry guidance; and legislation
· Ability to exercise knowledge of construction safety remotely to support PUs – knowledge of mechanical (including vehicles), civil, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering is required
· Able to mentor, coach and train individuals / groups on Control of Work and HAZOP
· Writing simple, unambiguous technical documentation that can be translated easily
· Progressing Continued Professional Development
Essential Education
· Degree in relevant engineering related discipline (Mechanical, Chemical or other)
Desirable criteria and qualifications
· Chartered Engineer desirable
· Project / Construction management experience desirable
