Role synopsis

Upstream Engineering Centre is responsible for managing the engineering technical practice and providing specialist engineering support to projects and operations.

The Rotating Equipment Engineer role is within the Upstream Engineering Centre (UEC) organization and reports through the Rotating Equipment Segment Engineering Technical Authority (SETA) team leader and is responsible for providing BP's Operating Functions, Global Operations Organization (GOO) and Global Projects Organization (GPO) with specialist expertise on all types of rotating equipment, including compressors, pumps, gas turbines and gas and diesel engines.

A specific requirement of this role is the responsibility for providing specialist rotordynamic expertise to the Upstream Segment

Key accountabilities

The position requires teamwork, communication, interpersonal and networking skills to assist in problem resolution. The role will require substantial interaction and collaboration with both Sunbury and Houston-based UEC staff and BP's Upstream Business Units worldwide. The role will require travel to field assets and to BP office locations worldwide. Responsibilities will include:

·  Identifying Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) risks and communicating as appropriate.
·  Delivering activity against work program set by SETA/Team Leader.
·  Providing technical service support for rotating equipment to BP's major operating centres. This includes root cause failure analysis, risk assessment and management of change guidance.
·  Applying knowledge and skills to solve assigned rotating engineering problems on all engineering aspects of rotating equipment to support BP Operations and Projects.
·  Identifying safe and competitive solutions to problems.
·  Documenting work in reports using the UEC workflow process.
·  Contributing to the development and maintenance of the Engineering Technical Practice standards.
·  Contributing to the health of the rotating equipment sub-discipline by being an active member of the Rotating Equipment sub-discipline Community of Practice.
·  Developing strong technical relationships with key stakeholders and Operating Functions.

In addition the position will have specific responsibility for providing specialist rotordynamic expertise to the Upstream Segment.

Essential experience and job requirements

·  Experience of rotordynamic analysis as applied to rotating equipment used in the oil and gas industry.
·  Experience and knowledge of condition monitoring of rotating equipment.
·  Experience and understanding of the engineering of centrifugal compressors, gas turbines, pumps, and supporting systems in Oil and Gas or equivalent industry.
·  Broad experience of Rotating Equipment engineering in Oil and Gas Operations and Projects.
·  Good knowledge of Rotating Equipment discipline standards used in the Oil and Gas industry; industry standards (e.g. American Petroleum Institute - API) and BP Engineering Technical Practices.
·  Ability to develop strong technical relationships with key stakeholders and Operating Functions
·  Pragmatic when balancing technical decisions and operational needs.
·  Ability to work across technology functions and within multi-disciplinary teams.
·  Good team working skills.
·  English (fluent)
·  Good verbal and written communication and influencing skills
·  A strong team player with the ability to work standalone in challenging situations

Essential Education

Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.

Desirable criteria and qualifications

·Holder of appropriate professional accreditation (e.g. Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), Professional Engineer (PE)).

·Understands how to apply BP Global Rotating Equipment (GRE) Global Agreements and GRE Operating Practices.

·Understands and applies Upstream Engineering's Engineering Principles.
