Role synopsis
BP is looking for a placement year student to join our BP Group Economics team for an Economics Work Placement Programme in London. The team comprises of three main functions: Macroeconomics, Energy Markets and Oil Refining, with members located in the UK, US, Asia and Russia. They provide insightful analysis of global energy markets and trends to inform numerous decisions. As part of these responsibilities, the economics team is responsible for producing BP's statistical review of world energy and BP's energy outlook.
As the successful candidate for the role, you will work on a research project based on analysing an issue raised by either the Statistical Review or the Energy Outlook. Precise research projects will be shaped around your expertise and interest. The length of the placement is negotiable, but is expected to be circa 12 months.

Key accountabilities
· Delivering research projects within the economics energy field
· Creating insightful reports for the Group Economics Team including integrating contributions for other team members
· Supporting research streams and fundamental energy economic analysis, which shapes the Energy Outlook narrative
· Communicating the results of rigorous economic analysis to a non-specialist audience, and the ability to conduct first class economic analysis, entailing ease of use of spreadsheets, word-processing and PowerPoint
· Maintaining Group planning assumptions (oil prices, gas prices, crude diffs, refining margins, exchange rates, supporting crucial inputs into the Group's financial framework and investment decisions)

Essential experience and job requirements
· Relevant project, research, thesis or business experience including internships and apprenticeships
· Exposure to economic analysis and its interface with energy markets
· Some experience in applying economic analysis and communicating the results clearly
· Solid IT skills, with advanced capabilities in IT tools, a distinct advantage
· Ability to meet tight deadlines, whilst sustaining the quality of analysis and presentation
· Strong personal organisation and team-working skills, whilst sustaining the quality of both the analysis and the presentation of the work
