Role synopsis

We are seeking a Private Equity Associate within BP Investment Management Ltd (BPIM).
BP Investment Management's principal function is managing the assets of the BP UK Pension Fund. The BP Pension Fund is one of the few UK pension funds still managed internally and its investment performance is extremely competitive compared with external specialists. Current assets under management are approximately £21bn. The team employs a number of investment professionals and its activities are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The private equity portfolio is currently c10% of the fund and invested globally in over 200 funds. Core fund strategies are buyout, growth, and venture capital.

Key accountabilities

Performance monitoring of the private equity portfolio.
Assist in the analysis and research of the global fund opportunities.
Assist in the due diligence of private equity fund commitments, re-commitments and co-investments.
Lead and Assist in ad-hoc projects and preparation of presentations for the Fund Trustee client and BPIM.
Engaging with a diverse range of external fund managers through attending general partner fund manager AGMs, update meetings and meeting with prospective third party managers.

Essential Education

The candidate should be educated to degree standard.
Desirable criteria and qualifications

Preferably a holder of at least the equivalent of an IMC (Investment Management Certificate)

Desired profile

Essential experience and job requirements

The candidate will have significant financial sector experience and already gained some exposure to private equity investment, most likely at a fund of funds, advisor or equivalent investor role with experience of due diligence and monitoring of private equity fund relationships.

Partnership and Team-working – Actively contribute to the shared success of the team and to work effectively with the wider organisation including finance, compliance and legal teams.
Performance – a self-starter who is able to act pro-actively and take responsibility for key tasks and projects.
Technical – Highly numerate and IT literate individual with the capacity and willingness to learn, assimilate complex data and develop internal processes to meet changing demands of the business.
Relationship – Strong interpersonal skills to represent BP Investment Management to maintain, develop relationships with external fund managers and third party service providers.
