Role synopsis
The role is an opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team responsible for fundamental and exploratory studies in chemistry to support BP group operations and to appraise and develop new technology options for business renewal.
The Centre of Expertise for Applied Chemistry and Physics (CoE ACP) is a global team with expertise in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Physical Sciences. The main technical hub is in Hull, UK with smaller spokes in Naperville, US and Dalian, China.
This role reports into the Team Leader, UK Science team and is based at BP's Hull Research and Technology Centre (HRTC).

Key accountabilities
· Deliver safe and compliant experimental operations, contributing to the development of an HSSE culture aligned with the goals of Group Technology.
· Design, execution and interpretation of experimental work and communication of results to meet the needs of the defined programmes.
· Work closely with CoE AC&P and business technology colleagues to identify needs and opportunities in fundamental and exploratory chemistry and catalysis, devise relevant experimental approaches, and deliver/transfer results and insights to meet these needs.
· Development of relevant in-house capability by identifying and implementing best practices in chemical synthesis and catalyst evaluation from Industry and Academia.

The office of the chief scientist identifies and creates long-term technology options for BP, focusing on three major areas: resource business extensions, conversion and low carbon options. The CSO also directs BP's strategic long-term partnerships with universities and research institutions around the world which provide access to leading science and engineering capability and opportunities to solve the world's energy challenges.
