Role synopsis

The Process Operations Technician position in Cherry Point involves maintaining, monitoring, and controlling the continuous operations of petroleum refining and process equipment. An operator works closely with team members to regulate and operate complex process equipment to produce quality products in a safe, environmentally compliant and efficient manner. The refinery Operations Technician position will report to a foreman and assigned to one of the refinery operating units. This job description is intended to provide an overview of the position and does not include all the tasks that might be required in providing the necessary support to the refinery.

Key accountabilities

In this role, the operator will, among other duties:

•Recognize the importance and support a strong safety culture
•Demonstrate the appropriate standard of care for refinery personnel and equipment. Be observant, willing, and have the courage to speak up.

•Effectively demonstrate and transfer work related knowledge to others in a variety of settings including day to day operation, training, and assessment
•Exhibit a high level of initiative as well as value and practice continuous self-motivated learning
•Effectively access and utilize multiple sources of information to help facilitate day to day job accountabilities
•Be self-directed and use self-study to meet structured learning requirements for an Operations Technician
•Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods, monitoring multiple computer screens controlling complex refinery processes
Essential Education

·  High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
Desirable criteria and qualifications

One or more of the following:
Bachelor's Degree, Associate's degree in Process Technology or related field, Military Experience, Technical experience (e.g., machinist, instrumentation or electrical), and/or Operator in a refinery, utility or chemical plant, General Refinery Experience
•Experience with distillation, filtration, separation, blending, storage, shipping and chemical reaction processes preferred.

Essential experience and job requirements

• Operators work a 12-hour rotating shift which will include weekends and holidays, and must be available for overtime.

To be considered for this operator position, applicants must:
• Exhibit safe work practices
• Have good computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
• Have proven mechanical aptitude
• Show the ability to work with others in a team environment both as a leader and as a team member
• Be a willing teacher of others for training and troubleshooting
• Have a solid understanding of physical science, chemistry, and mathematics, including algebra
• Have the ability to learn independently and seek assistance.
• Attain a passing score on pre-employment tests including mechanical aptitude, reading, and mathematics
• Ability to systematically determine the root cause(s) of problems and troubleshooting.
• Strong oral and written communication skills essential in order to describe activities to relief personnel, maintain data logs, prepare reports, and other materials as required.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task without being distracted.

Demonstrate a level of physical ability to handle the demands of the job with or without accommodation.
