Role synopsis

The IST IT&S Murex Front-Office Team are responsible for the delivery and maintenance of Murex package application for the evaluation and risk management of exchange and bilateral derivatives across an evolving range of commodity assets: mainly crude oil and refined products (fuels, gasoils, naphta, etc.) and, to a less extent, emission and natural gas products.

The team is based in London and is made up of a group of diverse and multi-skilled business analysts, support analysts, and developers operating in a DevOps model.

Following the recent upgrade of Murex towards version 3.1 there is a need to strengthen the Murex team with a Business Analyst with a focus on Murex's configuration, use and integration with upstream and downstream applications. The person is expected to become rapidly recognized as an expert on Murex.

The team is a genuine partner with the business. Within the bounds of strategic aims, the person will be expected to be a proactive enabler for business activity. For example he/she would be expected to analyse how new products can fit into Murex, to design and implement new extracts for internal teams (compliance, regulatory reporting), to provide clear instructions on the booking of structure products etc.

The person will work in an Scrum/Agile environment supervised by a Delivery Manager and will be expected to participate to sprint planning, daily scrums, reviews and retrospectives.

Responsibilities of the role include:

·  Design, test, roll-out and support of complex system configuration changes in the area of derivatives management throughout the lifecycle of deals;
·  Assuring the quality and effectiveness of their deliveries in front of the end users, address additional requests and contribute to the catalogue of future improvements;
·  Contributing as a key member of the team which aims at ensuring silent running of business as usual activities.
The role belongs to the Business Analysis Function within Oil Front Office IT&S and reports to a Business Analysis Manager.

On occasions the Business Analyst will take part in additional activities at the function level which aim at sharing the domain knowledge with other teams of Business Analysts with different focuses such as Middle-Office and Back-Office tools, Physical Operations, etc.

Key accountabilities

·  Elicit requirements from the business, translate them into system specifications, break down specifications into appropriate configuration building blocks which fit into the existing configuration estate and fulfil the initial requirements;
·  Define, document, and execute test plans, including effective evidence, to prove the readiness of a new configuration into Murex and compliance with integrated applications;
·  Explain the functioning of new and existing configurations to key stakeholders (end users, other team members, solution manager, etc.);
·  Perform reverse engineering to investigate issues or improve configuration;
·  Own the problems reported by the business teams until their resolution, this may involve the communication with other teams such as the Operational Excellence team and the following of BP's Incident Management methodology;
·  Engage with the vendor to get pertinent information of the system's capabilities beyond the available generic documentation through the provision of detailed test cases at various levels (deal, portfolio, instrument, etc.) during the resolution of issues and the launch of new activities;
·  Identify repetitive tasks which can be automated through suitable configurations (user definable queries, extracts);
·  Organise and conduct trainings for business users and middleware developers in order to streamline existing business processes or set up new processes;
·  Write clear and sustainable documentation which can be referred to (in user's desk books for example);
·  Work with developers (Murex technical developers, RAD developers, IT Quants, etc.) both onshore and offshore;
·  Manage several streams in parallel, each at a different stage in the usual development cycle, and report in an efficient and concise manner to the other members of the team;
·  Facilitate User testing to obtain signoff;
·  Resolve support issues quickly and completely;
·  Act as a trusted advisor to the business, both in terms of the technology and its usage.

Desirable criteria and qualifications

·  Proven track records in a similar role at a utility, bank or another financial institution (clearing house);
·  Understanding of the trading fundamentals and environment: evaluation of derivatives and options, risk management, regulatory reporting;
·  At ease with underlying technologies (Unix, XML/XSL, Java, etc.);
·  Proficient in at least one programming language (Murex scripting Language, VBA…);
·  Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field;
·  Experience of working with a global client base;
·  Knowledge of energy and commodities markets.

Desired profile

Essential experience and job requirements

·  Excellent knowledge of Murex 3.1 platform: global operating model, processing workflows and P&L acceptance, Trade repository, Market data repository, pricing notepads, simulation and reporting (datamart);
·  Deep knowledge of at least one class of derivatives (Fixed incomes and Interest rates, equity, commodity, foreign exchange, credit derivatives etc.) in Murex 3.1 and ability to configure new contracts from scratch;
·  Ability to carry out comparison tests, validation tests on all kind of outputs (P&L, sensitivities, etc.) on high volumes in a timely manner;
·  Use of SQL to interrogate data;
·  Ability to understand and build complex spreadsheets;
·  Keen sense of communication: adapting language to the audience by avoiding technical terms with business people for example.
