Role synopsis

The Expert will be responsible for data design and analysis in support of Formulated Products Technology (FPT) Quality Assurance (QA) continuous improvement activities. Providing direction, strategy and support to improve quality, cost, delivery and service issues whilst driving efficiency and standardisation. The Expert will provide quality inputs to global and regional managers, team leaders and advisors as well as to the QASC forums. The Expert is expected to provide leadership, participation and coaching for Quality Assurance (QA) in the areas of Risk Assessments / Control Point Assessments (CPA), Continuous Improvement (CI) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). The Expert will work with stakeholders to track and at times assist in closing gaps and actions identified in assessments and RCAs The Expert will support and interface with key systems for quality management and ISO/TS certifications.

Key accountabilities

·  Support Fuels and Lubricants business on Continuous Improvement projects and RCAs, acting as lead or coach in these areas.
·  To support the Pangbourne site ISO and TS requirements. Facilitate and act as liaison for external assessment by providing internal assistance and/or lead conversations to ensure TS-16949, ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 requirements are met. This may also include support and guidance for internal audits.
·  Establish and monitor effectiveness of quality assurance systems and strategies which assure issues, incidents, actions and complaints are effectively addressed and answered in expected time frames
·  Advise and guide GLT & GFT on all current and impending EQMS and ISO requirements as well as BP Group Defined Practices.
·  Review and provide expertise on gaps or improvements for control point/risk avoidance protocols within FPT and for the wider Fuels and Lubricants business.
·  Collect necessary quality data and information from regions and global teams to analyse develop and assess trends, providing input on areas of greatest risk.
·  Define, measure and implement key performance metrics for Quality and report performance to management. Provide guidance to leadership on appropriate quality metrics, monitoring both leading and lagging indicators.
·  Prepare and present incident and assessment data at Quality forums (e.g. QASCs, FCG, RCGs) and other forums within FPT and the Fuels or Lubricants businesses.
·  Define, implement and support quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff for the plant quality system. Provide direction and support for implementation, assessments and actions.
·  Develop practices, procedures and other protocols in support of the overall quality agenda to reduce quality risks.

KEY CHALLENGES:
·  Coordinate time and activities between Fuels and Lubricants priorities
·  Participate in regional meetings extending to multiple time zones
·  Alignment of process across geographical regions as well as across Fuels and Lubricants to ensure sustainable standardisation.
Essential Education

·  A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, business, or related field or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria and qualifications

·  Experience with quality management or quality management systems.
·  Six Sigma expertise.
·  Experience leading teams or projects with representatives from multiple geographic locations and cultures.
·  Knowledge of statistics and statistical evaluations.
·  Experience in Fuels or Lubricants businesses is preferred.

Other major product development centers for lubricants are in Neuhof (Germany) where all BP's transmission and axle oils are developed, Naperville (US) and Mönchengladbach (Germany), where specialized industrial fluids such as cutting oils and metal forming fluids are formulated. In Wadala (India) the next generation of lubricants for cars, motorcycles and trucks is being developed. The Technology Centre in Shanghai (China) provides technical services for automotive, industrial and marine lubricants. Smaller satellite technology centers provide local technical support to the lubricants businesses and manufacturing operations in the regions.

BP's Fuels Value Chains (FVCs) supply transportation fuels to markets in North America, Europe, Southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the Pangbourne site, Fuels teams are also based in Naperville (US), Bochum (Germany) and Cape Town (South Africa), where they provide direct support to the regional Fuels Value Chain businesses.

Essential experience and job requirements

·  Proven track record in quality assurance or quality control.
·  Proven track record in writing procedures and processes .
·  Proficient in software applications required to write procedures and develop related materials (e.g. Power Point, MS Word, Excel, Adobe Writer, etc.).
·  Proficient in managing and presenting complex data.
·  Proficient with use of systems (such as SharePoint) for document and project management
·  Experience in FMEA, control point assessment or risk assessment tools.
·  Strong organisational, communication and problem solving skills along with a bias for performance, an ability to progress issues with minimal information.
·  Strong interpersonal skills, network building capability, and influencing skills.
·  English fluency, both written and verbal.
