Role synopsis

The Market Analysis team is primarily responsible for providing analysis of European Gas and Power and Global LNG markets to the trading and origination teams within International Gas and the wider IST organization. Analysis performed by the team provides commercial value by keeping traders, originators, and management informed of underlying fundamental views that affect the markets.

The role involves being a key player in further developing our European modelling capability which underpins our analysis and forecasting service. This will involve developing quantitative models (fundamental and/or econometric) and processing and analysing large quantities of data to identify the key drivers for prices at the key European hubs.

Applicants should be able to develop supply/demand outlooks and/or other analytical tools surrounding European energy markets

Key accountabilities

·  Building and developing European power market stack models for key countries in conjunction with the Lead Power Analyst
·  Providing clear market analysis and trading strategies to the Power desk
·  Challenging and validating modelling approaches via back-testing
·  Working in collaboration with European gas, Emissions and LNG teams to ensure consistent and robust outlook across the benches
·  Seeking and delivering continuous improvement and innovation in analytical approaches and methodologies.
·  Contributing to the execution of BP's European Power origination strategy
·  Providing country specific insight to the trading and originations team.
·  Presenting fundamental views in weekly fundamentals meeting, as well as daily with traders
·  Liaising with Long Term analytics teams to share short term view, and also incorporate long term view within shorter term forecasts.
·  Providing ad hoc support the trading team, originations team and the wider BP group.
Essential Education

·  Hold a Degree in a quantitative, statistical, mathematical, engineering or similar discipline
Desirable criteria and qualifications

·  Knowledge of power markets and fundamental drivers
·  Demonstrable history of continually improving technical processes, models and systems
·  Knowledge of EU and UK power regulation and policies
·  Adept at working with large, as well as incomplete, datasets.
·  Confident at presenting in front of a diverse audience.
·  Understanding of statistics and modelling is highly regarded
·  Knowledgeable about other energy commodity markets, such as emissions, coal and gas
·  Experience working as a market analyst or similar role.
