Role synopsis

The Developer will deliver high quality coding capability and support for applications in Commodities Trading (Gas, Power, Emissions, Coal, Exotics and LNG trading). Our key partners are trading, operations, confirmations and regulatory reporting.

You will work on design, development and maintenance of enhancements and defect fixes across multiple applications, work to agreed code and quality standards within an agile development environment. You will need to build positive relationships with IT&S and business partners, working across teams, including other DevOps teams and external third parties to achieve this. He or she will work to establish team capability, coaching more junior staff and sharing knowledge and experience.

Key accountabilities

You will have these key accountabilities:

·  Effective interpretation of functional specifications to produce technical specifications, high level designs and approach.
·  Deliver to the development methods and practices established for the IG development team.
·  Timely and quality delivery of code, accepted by code reviews and alignment to development standards.
·  Work as part of a team with other developers to design, build, code review, test and implement the software.
·  Perform unit testing and functional testing.
·  Support automated regression testing framework.
·  Produce concise and relevant documentation when required.
·  Assist in UAT, Deployment Validation and ELS activities.
·  Participate in the DevOps support of applications against agreed SLAs.
·  Maintain highly effective working relationships with other IT Teams, external service providers and commercial teams.
·  Identify underlying root causes for reoccurring problems, and actively suggest improvements and simplifications to improve efficiency and our service offering.
·  Ensure knowledge gathered on coding standard methodology, application releases and improvement initiatives is shared with the team.

Desirable criteria and qualifications

Commercial Knowledge:

·  Understanding of gas and power trading (including the full deal lifecycle, all physical movements of gas and power operations, regulatory reporting)
Application Knowledge:

·  Experience of applications within the Finance/Energy Trading sector – experience with Trayport or other exchange connectivity and OpenLink Endur would be desirable.

Essential experience and job requirements

Technical Skills:

·  Practical experience using Agile development methodologies, e.g. Scrum, and actively contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives and estimation,
·  Solid experience with object oriented programming with C#
·  Experience of developing Unit Tests (MSTest, nUnit).
·  Experience of database design and SQL development (ORACLE, SQL Server)
·  Experience of Test Automation using BDD methods and the automation frameworks (SpecFlow)
·  Experience of ORM Frameworks and tools (Entity Framework, NHibernate)
·  Experience of using TFS for automated build and deployment.
·  Experience of interacting with partners at all stages of the life cycle, from requirement to support.
·  Experience of system analysis including producing data models, logical database and technical designs. Soft Skills:
