Role synopsis
One of BP's key strategies is to become a more data driven business. We have an opportunity for a Data Analyst to join our newly created Downstream IT&S Big Data & Analytics team. The role will combine elements of traditional business and systems analysis as well as hands on data analysis facing off to business stakeholders and other IT teams.

Key accountabilities
The analyst will provide insight, partnering closely with business stakeholders to realize benefits and align the overall technology and business strategy. By using data and information analytical tools, this role will support the development of prototypes through the identification and extraction of the right data and manipulation of the data into suitable formats. This may include the creation of specialist interfaces and transformation routines so that the data can be used by data scientists and other data specialists. This would include:
· Investigating operational requirements, problems, and opportunities by seeking effective solutions through improvements in data dependent components of new or changed business processes.
· Assisting in the analysis of stakeholder objectives and the underlying issues arising from investigations into business requirements and problems, identifying options for consideration.
· Applying a variety of analytical and visualisation techniques, in consultation with experts if appropriate, and with sensitivity to the limitations of the techniques.
Responsibilities include:
· Refining requirements to eliminate ambiguity, conflict and duplication.
· Modelling requirements using a structured approach.
· Producing high quality analysis deliverables.
· Understanding system constraints and opportunities to inform design.
· Working with design and architecture on design options and potential systems and process solutions.
· Co-ordinating/high level direction of the end to end of the data flow from use case, ingestion, wrangling to visualizations/insight
· Maintaining the data feed catalogue.
· Supporting key design decisions documents to identify and select appropriate feed design.
· Writing feed definition documents (features/epics) describing feed requirements, design and implementation.
· Writing feed data dictionaries describing data lifecycle and contents (table/file/attributes).
· Elaborating feed epics into product backlog items (stories) with acceptance criteria
· support of development and test activity.
· Data analysis to produce initial data cuts and define data extract patterns.
· Development of SQL to define data extract design.
· Managing relationships in a global team with a global user community.
Essential Education
· SQL skills in Oracle and SQL Server for data analysis.
· Excel and Access as data analysis, cataloguing and specification tools.
Desirable criteria and qualifications
· Data migration delivery experience
· Java development experience
· Data analysis skills including entity relationship diagrams and object graph mapping.
· Use of MS Excel and Access for data analysis.
· Use of MS Excel/Word /Wiki for documentation of architecture/design/implementation.
· Development and maintenance of build scripts and use of Jenkins for build automation.
· Familiarity with ETL concepts and solutions.
· Familiarity with scheduling and orchestration tools.
· Familiarity with data extraction from 3rd party APIs.

Essential experience and job requirements
· Ability to work with demanding users in a fast-paced environment.
· Solid grounding in Big Data technologies: HDFS, SQOOP, cluster management.
· Unix shell scripting in bash / ksh.
· Python development.
· Windows batch script.
· Experience in unit test automation.
· Experience in continuous integration and development techniques.
· Exposure to Scrum/Agile delivery methodologies.
· Strong data analysis skills including entity relationship diagrams and object graph mapping.
· Demonstrable experience of requirements elicitation and documentation carried through to design and implementation.
