Role synopsis

Integrated Supply & Trading (IST) is an organization which brings together a world-class trading team comprising the trading activities of BP in the Oil, Gas, Power, Chemicals, Finance and Shipping markets. IST has a distinct capability through its people - their skills and know-how, risk management approach, & systems and controls processes. It creates value for BP by combining those capabilities with the dynamic and material asset base of BP. IST is a global business with key locations in North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australasia.

Market Analysis is undertaken within the Trading arm of IST and is an important enabler of both prompt commercial delivery and long-term growth for IST. Analysts leverage critical thinking, quantitative skills, a collaborative spirit, and commercial drive to surface opportunities for BP in partnership with the traders.

We require one Chicago-based analyst for the Global Crude Trading business. The candidate will work closely with IST market-facing traders to drive successful trading activity & longer-term strategy through fundamentals assessments and other quantitative analytics. As part of a professional analytics organization, he/she will collaborate globally with a team of 6 crude analysts located in Chicago, London, and Singapore, locally with a cross-commodity team of 14 Chicago-based analysts, and vertically with experts from both the BP E&P and Refining businesses.

Key accountabilities

·  Assist the Global Lead Crude Oil Analyst to update and manage the extensive North American Crude Analytics Suite
·  Continue to add value and build upon the North American Crude Oil balances, pricing models, ship tracking and pipeline balancing models
·  Gather, manage and understand key government, external and internal data on a timely basis and bring information together to enhance IST's fundamental supply/demand knowledge
·  Support traders with ad-hoc requests on a timely basis, often handling multiple requests at the same time
·  Managing and continuing to develop up to 30 micro balances across the North American crude markets while communicating insights and trading recommendations
·  Contributing to the development of trading tools and streamlining processes for higher productivity and efficiency around the crude market analysis
Essential Education

Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering, economics, finance, or petroleum-process.

·  Strong understanding of the Canadian crude oil market, Cushing, Permian basin and U.S. Gulf Coast Markets
·  Passion for analytics, strategy and business development
·  Commercial acumen - front-office oriented with ability to provide valuable insights for trading opportunities
·  Ability to manage competing priorities
·  Ability to direct / manage one's own work and prioritize
·  Team player – ability to take and welcome direction and requests from both Calgary and Chicago
·  Global thinker – not getting lost in the details and be able to understand macro picture and consensus
·  Ability to build short and medium-term supply/demand balances for trading
·  Hard worker, high mental stamina, extremely strong attention to detail and ability to filter out valuable information vs. invaluable
·  Strong technical abilities – knowledge of VBA, par excellence Excel skills, MS Access, etc
