Role synopsis

The Credit Risk Team Lead is responsible for supervising and managing the operational activities of the team consistent with Credit Policies and Standards.

The Credit Risk Team lead role exists to support the management of policies and controls, manage complex and escalated operational issues regarding Credit Risk, and perform in-depth trouble shooting and to support operations delivery, quality management and control.

The Credit Risk Lead is responsible for appraising credit risk of new and existing customers consistent with Credit Policies and Standards. The Credit Risk Analyst also provides assistance and business support to the BPSA Sales teams and monitors customers’ transactions against credit limits while ensuring adherence to policies and procedures in the drive for exceptional customer service, operational excellence and compliance.

The Credit Risk Team lead will work closely with the sales teams, with numerous interactions with the business to facilitate the completion of a credit risk review of new or existing applications. The team lead will report and work closely with the Credit Services and CDD Manager.

The Credit Risk Lead is responsible for ensuring all Credit Risk operations are CDD operations are conducted in accordance with the Global Credit Policy of BPSA, including the requirement to observe all data privacy regulations and the need to maintain a systematic audit trail for all decisions and controlled document retention.

Key accountabilities

Functional

•Monitor and review day-to day operations in accordance with service level agreements, management goals and processes to ensure delivery meets customer expectations. Run and analyse performance and management information reports, plan and implement corrective action.

•Develop operational metrics/process performance indicators for the team in alignment with execution plans and wider business objectives
•Manage and supervise operational activities of the team, including:
Credit
–Control all credit activities
–Ensure that credit controls are in place and teams comply with these controls
–Monitor trade debtors balances to ensure that they are tightly controlled and credit risk appraisal of new and existing customers is carried out
–Review credit limit violations and ensure appropriate and effective risk management process execution
–prepare enterprise resource planning reports and other credit control reports as required, work with customers to reconcile issues and keep business informed as required. Support in building consistency in the reporting process.
–review credit evaluations on new and existing trade customers; assess risk factors. Identify mitigation actions required for minimising associated credit risks
–perform on-site credit evaluations of major customers, specifically Reseller portfolio, by providing a view on the financial position of the entity
–provide relevant support, analyse, determine root cause and apply appropriate resolution / provide feedback on complex and non-routine customer issues that are escalated across any Order to Cash processes.
–Analyse, perform or support root cause analysis, provide feedback and apply or support appropriate resolutions
–Provide guidance to team on credit risk valuations of various portfolios
–Review overall changes in risk portfolios and recommended changes to risk ratings and credit limits on bass of review
–Provide feedback on ongoing monitoring of high risk customers
–Support partners and relevant stakeholders wth key business insights that tie to the metrics and monthly operational reviews
–Provide support in responding to internal and external audit queries as and when necessary
–Prepare provisioning for Resellers portfolios, review provisioning for all portfolios
–Perform BSI for all provisioning accounts
–Perform overall analysis and reconciliation of doubtful debtors provision as well as bad debts write-offs
–Perform Supplementary data reconciliations for bad debt provisioning and bad debt write-offs
–Gather data, compile and generate reports as and when necessary and provide commentary on the performance

Service Management & Continuous Improvement
•Provide technical analysis and / or feedback regarding the impact of regulatory changes, projects, system upgrades or modifications to support the development of targeted responses, enhanced processes and systems focused on quality, control and compliance.
•Identify process and system improvement opportunities, develop short term workaround solutions or provide recommendations for permanent solutions and implement. Create relevant documentation as required to ensure change is embedded throughout the Tower.
•Support projects related to new initiatives, enhancements, the implementation of policy changes, new GBS scope and other process / system changes.
•Maintain strong professional relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders. Manage key contractors and supplier relationships to deliver maximum value and impact for BP.
•Provide training, troubleshooting documentation and continual on the job guidance for relevant team stakeholders.

Essential Education

•Bachelor’s Degree in relevant fields of Finance, Accounting, Legal, Business or related field or previous credit experience in a relevant credit environment.

•Relevant tertiary qualification

Essential experience and job requirements

• Previous credit analysis experience 3-5 years in a credit environment
• Credit Analyst background in banking, financial services or blue-chip corporate credit environment
• Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to adhere to processes
•Strong written and verbal communication skills – the role requires communication to all levels within the organisation
•Proven track record with preparation of financial statement reviews companies at various levels
•Good investigative and analytical skills, able to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines.

• Experience using Transunion, Windeed, Experian or other related Credit Bureaus
•Experience working in Global Shared Services environment
•Exceptional analytical skills and demonstrated proficiency in IT Applications
•Experience working in a fast paced environment and ability to adapt to changing priorities
•Ability to interact effectively with others.
•Customer focused, service oriented and performance driven.
•Good MS Office skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint is a must have skill)

•Understand and operate the Global Credit Policy, Group Credit Standard as well as related R&M Credit Processes.
•Ensure GBS securely stores all information in accordance with the requirement of the policies and standards ensuring compliance with any data privacy requirements.
•Key contact to Transunion/Experian and other related credit bureaus and control of user access within centre
•Escalation point in GBS Centre for all credit related queries
•Conduct credit risk evaluations on new and existing customers, establish, update or obtain credit limit approvals for them, interpret financial information to extrapolate risk factors, develop and prepare business cases for escalations and recommendations
•Perform timely reviews of customer data and the preparation of credit risk recommendations, especially in the case of new customer accounts related to high risk customers
•Serve as the point of contact for escalated issues from team members, customers, embedded credit, finance, sales and BP Legal
•On a daily basis monitor, track and follow up on customer accounts that are trading over the credit limit or that are overdue, and recommend actions
•Recommend, for approval, release of customer orders, where customer is nearing credit limit.
•Recommend to business review of credit limit on basis of history trends of customer (both increase and decrease in credit limits)
•Prepare monthly provision for doubtful debtors and recommend transfers to the doubtful ledger
•Be liaison between legal and counsel for doubtful debtors – including handing over matters to attorneys and maintaining follow up until case closed out.
•In preparation for monthly provisioning, monitor the daily overdues and recommend provisions in consultation with sales and business on likelihood of recovery.
•Continuous review required of customer accounts, thereby allowing the credit analyst to make decisions on the credit worthiness and credit viability of the customer
•Use information from credit bureaus to flag risk to the business
•Monitor and maintain securities such as bank guarantees, bank letter of credit, fuel guarantees, etc.
•Analyse and review daily exception reports•
