Role synopsis

This is a Commodity Risk Analyst role based in the Singapore office of IST Global Oil. The role provides control over the optimisation of BP's refineries and marketing assets performed in Singapore on behalf of the BP Fuels Value Chain (FVC) organisation. The analyst will be required to work with IST Finance teams and front line Asset Traders to ensure appropriate control and oversight as well as FVC Supply, Finance and Reporting teams to ensure that the FVC requirements are being met.

The Commodity Risk FVC team provides real-time front-line control and management information for management and Asset traders. This includes daily profit and loss measurement, trading exposure reporting, and risk reporting. Because of the unique position of the team in the middle office, the team supports broader commercial activities including helping with:
- projects (NAIs and Business Transformation)
- analysis and control input of business opportunities
- providing insights into commercial performance
- monitoring trader adherence to limits
- training other teams and sharing expertise.

Key accountabilities

Daily deal deal level exposure and P&L validation:
·  On a daily basis, timely validation of deal blotters and business summaries from the front office to ensure that new business deals are accurately represented in the system.
·  Maintain and review deal level MTM, exposure and P&L
·  Review operational activity for exposure and P&L impacts
·  Monitoring of Delegations of Authority and adherence to trading limits
·  Own the relationship with the relevant trader (s) and manage relationships with other teams and functions such as Operations, Settlements and Accounts – both in IST and FVC.
·  Enhance the control environment through critical evaluation of current controls and processes, utilisation of best practice and the introduction of ongoing improvements Running and monitoring FVC performance reports for various stakeholders – ensuring sound analytics.
Essential Education

·  Accounting/Business degree or formally recognised Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
·  Attention to detail, ability to work with detailed transactions and accurately control, report and communicate trading activity
·  Ability to perform in a deadline orientated environment
Desirable criteria and qualifications

·  Familiarity with asset optimisation commercial performance measurement concepts
·  Strong interpersonal and communication skills
·  IT (systems) skills (SAP, Business Objects, Excel & Access)

·  Understanding Trading
·  Demonstrates a working knowledge of the concept of mark-to-market and is able to articulate market/price volatility in terms of its effect on cash flow and working capital.
·  Readily calculates exposure based on new, existing or proposed trading positions.

·  Understanding Fuel Value Chain
·  Demonstrates basic knowledge around refining and supply/marketing business
·  Understands the effects of changes in supply/demand drivers.

·  Market Risk
·  Understands the principles of financial risk management.
·  Able to understand and interpret the relevant data (exposures, prices, volatilities, correlations) used by the Market Risk Function.

·  Credit Risk
·  Understands the construction of a public company's financial statement and knows how to calculate traditional financial ratios.
·  Knowledge of a counterparty's country of incorporation and registration and awareness of possible credit ramifications.

·  Operational Risk
·  Able to understand and interpret operational risk data; identifies critical data for businesses and functions; highlights data most relevant to business drivers

·  Internal Control & Assurance
·  Able to handle deviations and exceptions and knows when to escalate any significant control breakdown and/or any incipient or improper accounting.
·  Understands how controls operate to improve performance and prevent loss.
·  Able to recognise business changes that require documentation.

·  Compliance
·  Understands the specific requirements and transaction controls within their own business area and operates successfully within these.
·  Is able to identify points of potential compliance and assurance breakdown and assists in the creation of ways to mitigate them.
·  Understands how these requirements affect business performance and prevent loss for BP

·  Understands how accounting data are wired together to form a set of accounts.
·  Able to build a bridge from profit to cash flow.
·  Familiar with the main accounting ratios: return on capital employed, return on equity, return on sales, asset turnover.
