Interface Design Manager

Job description

Mission

The position is based in Stockholm (Sweden).

 

The Design Interface Manager acts as the central point of contact for all design-related interfaces, ensuring that various design packages (e.g., civil, structural, signalling, electrification, catenary, telecommunication, etc…) are compatible, buildable, and delivered according to the project schedule. 

They proactively identify potential conflicts between design disciplines and external stakeholders, implementing solutions to prevent delays.

Main tasks

  • Interface Register/Matrix: identify, document, and manage all internal and external interface points via a comprehensive Interface Register and Matrix.
  • Interface Management Plan: develop, implement, and maintain the Project Interface Management Plan, procedures, and protocols.
  • Interface Planning: Ensure that both interface contributors (Leader and Follower) have a shared planning for interface development (Preliminary, Pre-final, final) according to overall Design Planning.
  • Design Coordination: lead coordination meetings to resolve technical issues between different design teams and subcontractors, ensuring design compatibility.
  • Stakeholder Communication: act as the liaison between the client, designers, contractors, and third parties to manage expectations and ensure timely information exchange.
  • Risk Mitigation: identify potential technical and commercial risks arising from interface issues and develop mitigation plans.
  • Close-out: audit and formally close out all design interfaces upon completion.

Job requirements

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience: Proven experience in interface management or project engineering, within rail industry (10+ years commonly required for senior roles).
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of railway systems (signalling, electrification, catenary, telecommunication) and construction processes.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary project environments and working with international stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and experience in risk and change management.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and MS Office Suite.
  • Languages: fluent in English. French and Swedish knowledge is considered a plus.
