This summer, BNP Paribas Canada opens its doors to you for a paid Summer Internship from May to August 2021.

During that time, the intern will benefit from a program composed of several corporate events, including a welcoming session, training and presentation to Management.

We are looking for a RISK Model Validation Intern within our Independent Review and Control team.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The RISK function of BNP Paribas constitutes the Second Line of Defense of the Bank. It aims at independently reviewing, assessing, challenging and communicating on the level of risk generated by the various business lines and activities within the Group. Hence, RISK both protects and serves the bank by acting as a key contributor to its long-term development.

RISK Mission Statements:

· To advise the Bank’s Management on risk appetite definition
· To contribute as an objective “second pair of eyes” that risks taken on by the Bank align with its policies
· To report and alert Bank Management of the status of risks to which the Bank is exposed
· To contribute to the development and growth of the risk culture within the Group

The main mandate of the newly created RISK Shared-Service platform in Canada is to support and deliver high-quality services to the U.S. RISK teams.

RISK IRC is the team within the Risk Management Department responsible for model vetting, validation, and model risk management for models used throughout the Americas. In joining this amazing team, you will have the opportunity for broad exposure to the diverse collection of financial, retail, AI, and ML models.

The Canadian RISK platform was created early 2020 and therefore the intern will join a new and dynamic team, exposed to a vast range of different tasks and projects, as expected for a recently created organization.

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

If you are interested in gaining exposure to mathematical models used in finance, adding value to a TOP 10 global organization, and gaining some real-life experience in financial models, BNP Paribas is looking for a candidate to help develop its Montreal platform by joining a team of seasoned quants to review models used across the organization.

Who we are looking for? People with great technical and people skills, a keen interest in financial modelling, and a strong desire to learn model risk management best practices.

Why it matters: Quantitative and qualitative models used in investment, retail and wholesale banking operations support and underlie many of the most important processes of the decision-making functions. Our team works closely with model developers along with other key stakeholders to ensure that all models are working as expected. Model validation activity is a key component the risk management activity.

This position reports to the Manager of RISK IRC Canada.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Support RISK IRC mandate:
- Assist model risk managers in reviewing the quantitative models used at the Bank
- Participate in the digital transformation of risk management process
- Use data and AI/ML techniques to automate model development and selection
- Ad-hoc projects or special assignments

TRAINING AND OCCUPATIONAL EXPERIENCE

·  Pursuing a Master’s degree (2nd cycle)

ESSENTIAL SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

·  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Power BI is a plus).
·  Good organizational and interpersonal skills
·  Attention to detail and the ability to work with a distributed multinational and multicultural teams
·  Good communication skills
·  Development tools and languages (SAS, Python, VBA, R, etc.)
