The Journal Coordinator, SpringerOpen, is a wide-ranging role, which is essential to the smooth running of the SpringerOpen journal portfolio. Duties include coordinating the successful set up of new SpringerOpen journals and journals transferring from other publisher platforms. The Journal Coordinator will work on a defined portfolio of journals, responding to queries from internal and external Editors, maintaining internal systems and processes, providing reports and coordinating key stages in a journals’ life-cycle in collaboration with colleagues in Production,
Editorial, Open Access Journal Development and Journal Editorial Office. They will also occasionally provide more general administrative support to the wider SpringerOpen and Open Access Journal Development team.
Main Duties
Journal set up
-
Follow processes for setting up new journals: Open Access Journal Development

Assist Springer Publishing Editors and Open Access Journal Development Editors with tasks relating to journal launch, including the transfer of content from other Publishers where applicable.
Continued Journal Administrative Support

Ensure queries are dealt with promptly, either by directing to relevant person to respond or by responding directly.

Along with the Open Access Journal Development Editor, act as key contact point between external Editors, service providers, other internal teams and Springer Publishing Editors for SpringerOpen titles.

Maintain internal systems and websites to reflect Editorial Boards. Ensure information is accurate, up to date, with right roles

Coordinate thematic series for SpringerOpen titles, creating roles for Guest Editors, updating the website and ensuring other internal teams are updated on upcoming series and related processes and timelines.

Ensure clear communication of journal requirements to Editorial Office and Production teams for manuscript handling.

Communicate information regarding process variations to external partners as required.

Ensure journal websites and other information sources are kept up-to-date.

Answer customer enquiries and problems via email and telephone.

Perform other duties as necessary within the wider SpringerOpen and Open Access Journal Development team.
Person Specification
Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail

Computer literate - understands common software (e.g. Microsoft Office suite) and gains new software skills quickly
