Site Environmental Technician, Poplars Landfill

We are currently looking for a Site Environmental Technician to work at our Landfill site in Poplars.

Main Purpose of the Job is to ensure leachate treatment plant runs at a maximum capacity, assist with EA liaison and assist with leachate collection systems at Meece and Marchington landfills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure leachate plant treats a minimum of 200m³/day by balancing the leachate system to ensure all leachate can be fed into it. Understand the process and science behind the plant and be alert to changes and rectify issues. Maintenance and repair of the plant including critical part spare list.
• Ensure leachate wells are balanced to maintain compliance with the site environmental permit, manage the leachate pump maintenance contract.
• Manage all external leachate inputs into the plant from other Biffa locations
• Arrange contractors as required and supervise works undertaken.
• Assist with leachate collection systems at Meece and Marchington to maintain compliance with the site environmental permit.
• Attend meetings with the Environment Agency and correspond with them as required.
  
  Experience/Qualifications
• GCSE Maths and English
• Degree or significant relevant experience in waste or environmental capacity
• Full car driving licence
• Intermediate Microsoft package IT skills in word, excel and outlook
• Either landfill operational or environmental experience
• Working to achieve clearly defined KPI's (environmental, financial and H&S)
