About the job
Key Responsabilities:
· Design, implementation and monitoring of quality controls for advanced analytics models, trading algorithms and quantitative investment strategies. These controls ensure that the performance of models and algos does not deteriorate after their release to production.
· Data analysis of the behavior of productive models, algos and strategies. These implementations generate a large amount of data that requires Data Science tools to understand it and explain it to the business.
Rigorous evaluation of financial impact and KPIs of productive models, algos and strategies. For instance, by analyzing A/B testing results.
· Challenge Data Scientists from the product teams before releasing models or algos into production, by doing a peer review of their proposal.
· Engage with the Advanced Analytics Discipline in implementing best practices regarding model monitoring.
Provide functional support to the business units (traders and sales) regarding data analytics, models, trading algorithms or quantitative strategies.
To give you an idea, a few examples of topics you would be looking at are:
· From Concept Drift to Model Degradation: An Overview on Performance-Aware Drift Detectors, by F. Bayram, B.S. Ahmed, and A. Kassler: arxiv.org/pdf/2203.11070.pdf .
· Machine Learning in Non-Stationary Environments: Introduction to Covariate Shift Adaptation, by Sugiyama M. and Kawanabe M.
· Advances in Financial Machine Learning, by Marcos López de Prado.
· The Science of Algorithmic Trading and Portfolio Management, by Kissell, R.
How can you expect that a typical day unfolds if you join the team?
· You will start the day checking that our trading algorithms, models and quantitative strategies, as well as the supporting analytics processes, have a smooth start.
· Later, you will join the rest of the data scientists to discuss their different lines of work and share ideas.
· Sitting on the open trading floor, or working from home (we operate in a flexible 60% office, 40% home scheme), you will have extensive time to engage with our business stakeholders on functional questions; discuss with product data scientists potential quality issues in their implementations; improve and implement new data science based monitoring processes that evaluate the potential degradation of algos, models and strategies; analyze financial impact and KPIs; participate in workflows of approval of new implementations by challenging the product data scientists proposals from a functional point of view; and investigate potential alerts regarding the performance of algos, models and strategies.
· Some time might be also allocated for learning and training, either at campus BBVA or with the rest of the team in our journal and book club sessions, where we discuss in group the latest books and papers relevant to our activity.
