Our building is one of the best in English regions - and we want the best talent to work here.Role ResponsibilityAs the Weekend Newsreader you’ll start work at 0600 and will be responsible for making the check calls and finding out what stories have broken overnight. You’ll prepare and read news & sports bulletins throughout the morning. You will also chase up breaking stories, monitor Twitter and tweet headlines and breaking news; you’ll liaise with TV and online colleagues and ensure listeners have a clear understanding of what’s making the news. You may also be responsible for producing content for Monday’s breakfast programme and bulletins. We have some of our biggest audiences on Saturday and Sunday mornings, so you will be a key part of output.The Ideal CandidateYou'll have substantial experience in a radio newsroom, first class writing skills and a great voice with real on-air authority. In addition, you'll need a good understanding of the BBC Radio Leicester audience and its diverse communities. You’ll have a strong journalist’s nose and will know where to hunt down the stories that will be making the headlines that morning – and the confidence to take editorial decisions.
