Job description

The award winning BBC Tours in London attract an audience of over 90,000 people a year, running up to 18 tours a day, 7 days a week. The aim of the tour is to give visitors to the building an interesting insight into the BBC’s history and the work that goes into making BBC programmes. 

The tours at BBC Broadcasting House run throughout the year and are currently open to people over the age of 9 years (this age limit will reduce with the introduction of a Family tour in the future). The tours department falls within BBC Media Engagement, which is part of Marketing and Audiences and has a key role to play in making the BBC more open and accessible.

We are seeking Tour Guides to join the team on a 12 month flexi-contract basis.

Role Responsibility

12 month fixed term contract with a minimum of 7 hours PER MONTH.

Your role is to be the face of the BBC and therefore you will offer exceptional customer care to our visitors.

Your main responsibility will be to plan and conduct entertaining and informative tours of BBC Broadcasting House in London for groups of up to 25 visitors of varying ages and backgrounds, including the future Family Tour aimed at 6 – 12 year olds.

You will be part of a large team of guides therefore flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be reliable, flexible and punctual. You are expected to be polite and courteous to all visitors and have excellent customer service skills. You will be able to demonstrate first class presentation skills. Excellent organisational skills are paramount as there can often be changes to the tour.

 

Please note: Interviews will be held in early January 2016. The interview process will involve a presentation and a role play exercise followed by a short interview.

 

It is essential you can attend the training course for this role. It will run for two weeks from Monday to Friday, starting on Monday 18th January and finishing on Friday 29th January. The attendance of this mandatory training will be a pre-requisite for any appointments made.

 

Your first shift will then be in the weeks immediately following the training.

Package Description

4 x 12 Month Flexicon Contracts

12 month fixed term flexi-contract (at least 7 hours guaranteed per month) – please note that the hours are not full time but equate to, on average, a couple of shifts a week including some evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays where necessary.

Please note that a requirement of any appointment is for successful candidates to be available to attend mandatory training days running from 18 - 29 January (Monday to Fridays inclusive).
