Job description

Reaching 265 million people around the world every week, the World Service Group is the international arm of the BBC offering compelling and impartial journalism in 28 languages across television, radio, online, mobile and social media.

BBC Afghan Service is a multiplatform language service which provides audiences a mix of radio, online, TV and social media services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

Role Responsibility

You will provide BBC Afghan Service with quality authoritative and well informed multimedia coverage and analysis of news and current affairs from across Pakistan.

You will suggest ideas for features and special reports on social and cultural and other aspects of life and produce multimedia features and special reports.

You will be required to conduct high standard interviews for TV, Radio and Online.

The successful candidate would be deployed to locations other than their home base in the country.  A willingness to work flexibly and travel at short notice is essential.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be an experienced reporter who is fluent (oral and written) in Pashto and able to communicate effectively in English.  You must have experience of daily reporting gained in the field, preferably as a bilingual broadcaster with experience of live broadcasting.   You will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the political/economic and cultural developments of Pakistan and in-depth command of local, regional and international affairs.  The successful candidate will have an excellent, independent and balanced editorial judgement and in-depth knowledge of audience requirements.
